Any discussion of punk rock really ought to fundamentally begin with what that label even means, how it came to be, and how it was ironically reappropriated--by those who were dismissively labeled as punks.

As a bass player, you should check out anything with Mike Watt on bass: Minutemen; fIREHOSE; and his numerous projects after that.
This one is a petition of appreciation for how awesome Mike Watt and his non-reverse Thunderbird sounded.

I consider myself a “Jazz” guy but…
I love me some speed metal, thrash metal, punk rock etc…
Tha being said, not a huge Ramones fan but I love me some Dead Kennedys, Dead Milkmen,
The Clash, Misfits, Sex Pistols to name a few!
As someone that went through a rebellious phase or two I can relate. I despise country except for outlaw country, because except for outlaw country I really can’t relate but I recognize it’s my opinion so try not to hate.
Fugazi is my favorite, lots of catchy bass riffs , they play the dynamics like some sort of theatrical roller coaster
Just because you (or I, or anyone else) dislike something doesn't mean it doesn't have value. I don't care for country music much, but it brings joy to millions of fans - that's value.
As for punk music, there's some I like, a lot I don't care for, but my favorite link band of all time is Nomeansno. I had a chance to see them play live a few times before they retired, even as grey haired geezers they still brought every ounce of energy they had. And Rob Wright was a very talented bass player.

Who gets to define what “punk” is, anyway? I remember when Green Day starting getting radio hits, all there original-fan base complained they had “sold out”, as if the act making a living and playing what they wanted was some kind of Betray of Punk Ethos. If a spiky hairdo means your Punk, then Billy Idol was a Punk, until he “sold out”. The genre names are meaningless, it either moves you or it doesn’t.

While Rancid was initally criticized for being a blatant ripoff of the Clash in the mainstream "corporate-punk" explosion of the early 90s, they came from the ashes of the very influential ska-core band Operation Ivy. Bassit for both bands Matt Freeman is an excellent musician and this song is about the bay area punk scene of that time as well as the death of that band. One of my favorite bass players, and I would say that he is "any good".
