Funky, the original owner, the avowed racist, came up with the team name "Redskins" because he thought it was funny.
Sioux is a derogatory name.
Most of the tribal names used are given by white men.Holy cow. I had no idea that it was.
That is to show the white mans name.Right under Lakota it says Sioux...

I'm not doing this today. That is not what I said, and you know it. Cease with the silliness
What tony is saying is that the marginalized groups should get to decide how they are represented. That you support them is good, but don't whitesplain it, let their voices be heard. He wasn't accusing you of anything.I'm learning a new lesson here. As a mostly Caucasian man, I can only point out what I feel is racism towards Caucasians. So much for that ability to empathize that I thought was a good trait.
IMHO unless your fully Native American I don't think it's your place to say if the names offensive or not.

Thank you, but I still ain't seeing that. The post I was referring to that I thought Tony had agreed with didn't say anything about representation, just weather or not it could be considered offensive. I DO agree that if the majority of Native Americans feel that the term isn't offensive, then the term can be considered inoffensive (is that the right word?) and the Washington NFL franchise should be allowed to keep it.
I am sincere about the apology. I'm still learning life's lessons.
Yeah what I was saying is actually what you're saying...it got lost in the quoting and typing somehow. Sorry for my snarkiness this morning
We'll disagreeI don't have a horse in this race at any rate beyond thinking that the PC element doesn't care a bit about anything they rail against. They just want effect. Change is a by product of what drives them. Personally, I don't know a single person in my entire lifetime that used it (Redskin/s) as a insult or even heard of it being used as such. Maybe if I knew someone from the 1800s my chances would have been greater. Both my grand parents on my mothers side were born on a reservation in Ok. I can't recall a single time that either commented on that name as being derogatory or offensive to them. My experiences are my own. I can allow for the thought that some have experienced a different feeling or effect from this. I've just never heard of it in a year shy of 50 years.
A last thought. It's a tough one but it needs to be said.
A person; Be they racists, womanizer or what ever mental state you care to mention, is not always motivated and driven by that state. It is possible to be a racist jack wagon and still make a choice that isn't motivated by race.

Back at you.
Well ain't you the nitpicker.
But its not a PC dogooder, its a Native American lady who objects to both the name and the reason it was named in the first place. Which apparently was far removed from acknowledged strength on the battlefield.
Hunting season on people you don't agree with. Sounds like PC people behavior to me.
Until you give enough of a poo to look into any aspect of this particular case, you will continue your generic rail against "PC-ness" oblivious to the fact that it does not apply here
Name them the Honkys and no one will care.
