Well, I'll admit, Im a little on the fence about this one.

For one, the first trailer I saw for this at the start of the Dark Knight, with the Billy Corgan song, looked awesome. Some trailers ive seen since then have been less than inspirational.

Im not really a comic/graphic novel reader. At times this seems genuinely interesting, though at others it seems like another overhyped superhero movie. I know the general backstory, so that has me somewhat intrigued. The poster above also helps a little more in getting me into a seat.

think he means laurie, she was 16 or so when she first met dr manhattan in 1966 at the crimebusters meeting, and the story's set in 85?

makes her about 35, similar to OPs estimate, edit - although having watched those trailers again, it all kinda fits with the way the film's been done. it is, after all, an adaptation, not a faithful recreation, although i'm impressed by how similar it looks from the trailers...

One of my favorite bits about the trailers is seeing the exact remakes of some of the frames from the comic - Laurie and Nite Owl kissing in front of the mushroom cloud and the angle and position of the Comedian being thrown out of the window being two of the notable ones.

Highlight (spoiler): Who would Dr. Manhattan be disintegrating in that one shot from the trailer? The only person I remember him doing that to in the comic is Rorschach, but the background on that shot doesn't look like Antarctica.

I dont remember any mushroom cloud in the original, I'm flipping through it now to find it - what are you talking about? lol.

But yes, in almost every shot from the trailer it looks like they're following the comic closely

Well just got back from the pre-screening and... wow. It's friggin good. If you don't want to know anything about the movie, please stop reading here. I am not going to post spoilers, just comments about the movie that don't really reveal anything. This is more geared towards people who have read the novel and know what's going on.

Overall, the movie was pretty faithful to the book, with many of the shots being frame for frame of the novel. (The explosion scene from the trailer with Dan and Laurie kissing that you guys are commenting about occurs on page 16 of chapter 7). They cut a lot of the less important subject matter and side-stories, which is acceptable because the movie is already really long as it is.

Technically speaking, the songs containing the lyrical quotes that start and end each chapter are all present in the movie, which is a cool touch. Rorschach's badassness is displayed incredibly well and the effect used on his mask is awesome. Dr. Manhattan was well done and doesn't seem too CGI'd, and they do keep the frontal... views... in the film. It's also very gory in a 300-esque way, and they amp up some of the deaths to get more blood.

More of a spoiler:
As they did release officially, they did change the ending a bit but still retained the overall message and feel. I'm not sure if I like the new ending as much. I kind of have to sit on it for a while and think about it in comparison to the book.

Well I'm kind of short on time, so if anyone has any questions they can either ask me here or PM me if they are more spoiler related. All in all, I highly recommend going to see this film. Make sure you go to the bathroom before, however!

Found out today that my classes are canceled on Friday morning. Not that it would have stopped me from going to the midnight show, but now at least i wont show up to class half asleep.
I am actually a bit worried about falling asleep during the film...i usually don't make it past 1:30 or so...:help:

The same guy who did 300 (which is a Frank Miller comic!) is doing this one, so maybe it wont suck...

And even better than 300 was 'Sin City' which was another comic adaptation that was one of the best movies I've seen in the last 5 years. That other guys name is Robert rodriguez.
