Watchmen!!!!

TB is officially a sausage fest when the first thing that comes to mind about the movie is Manhattans peepee.

Im going sometime soo, hopefully. IIRC, Rorscauch was a dark character in the novel, so his voice being "Batman: The Dark Knight" like doesnt surprise me.

saw it last night. upping the sex and violence does not a good movie make. overall, it's a good adaptation. but the movie is way too visceral and graphic. the most intense plot point in the book was the finale. the most intense plot point in the movie is rorshach in prison. the change in the ending kept the intent and premise in place very well all things considered. but the whole finale lost its impact following the graphic intensity of the preceding scenes. the more i process it, the less i'm liking it

Seen it twice now, and I have a theory on why the violence seemed over the top: In the comic (Graphic Novel)the fights were so quick they took place in only a few panels, and its hard to get a sense of how much time passed during the fight. Five panels in comic time is variable, but in the movie there has to be motion between where the panels would be, so, 5 frames could be 2 seconds or 2 minutes, depending on how much time you take to soak it all in, I mean a lot happens in some of those fights, and i dont think they dwelled too long on the violence.

It's supposed to fill you with the idea that the world is really a violent place...

My biggest disappointment was the time they dragged out on the relationship scenes at the end...

That being said, I still give it a high score...94 out of 100 (even with the blue wiener scenes):bassist:

I really liked it and the violence did seem that over the top to me. Seems the standard these days. I liked the new ending better. The original one was always lame to me. The sex scene was totally unnecessary to the movie but I guess they are catering to comic book convention geeks, who that, is a close as they will ever get to a woman (ever been to one?).

Got back from it about an hour and a half ago.

Excellent movie. Excellent acting. Too much sex. Too much gore.

And, for PETE'S SAKE, DON'T BRING THE KIDS! Six families complete with kids strolled right into the theater today, the parents apparently not having a care in the world that it's rated R for a reason. :rolleyes:

How can you guys say that it had to much sex or gore?
a) all of it was in the graphic novel, but not really fleshed out so to speak. It's alot more visceral to watch it in a movie than to read it in a few frames of a comic.
b) it's from the same director as 300 - that should be a give away as to how the sex and violence will be portrayed
c) one of the whole themes of Watchmen is how dirty and basic life is..
idk - I didnt think it was over done, in terms of going from the novel to the movie. If the novel has to much in it for you, then that's just a matter of personal opinion.

Completely agree. Maybe I'm just desensitized to sex and violence, but I really didn't see the big deal. As stated above, it's all in the novel. It's neither a kid book, nor a kid movie.

I never read the novel, so it is merely a personal opinion.

In retrospect, I simply have to add that Jackie Earle Haley's performance was outstanding.

Absolutely. I don't think they could have cast that part any better. Really, all the characters were extremely well cast, with the exception of Ozymandias. I felt the actor looked a little too scrawny/effeminate for the role, I always thought of Ozymandias as basically the embodiment of the Greek ideal of masculinity. The redesign of his costume didn't help either, it's almost like they were trying to paint him from the outset as a villain even though his morality is supposed to be just as ambiguous as that of all the other characters.

i agree about the violence. dan and laurie beat up knot heads in the book, but the corresponding scene in the movie was pretty ridiculous. the levels of intensity from the book were not well-preserved--i agree 100 percent.

the sex scenes were pretty faithful, though. :ninja:

I have to agree with coolrunner, the violence was supposed to be pretty darn over the top, as it was in the GN. It is supposed to make you think that this world is a darkly violent and anarchically morbid place...
Seeing it in movie form just makes it so much more horrifying, but it is pretty darn close to the GN (have it in front of me).

As for my complaints with the movie... they trimmed a little of the side stories of the supporting characters, which i didn't think detracted from the overall story...
(Hooded justice, Captain metropolis, Hollis mason... etc)
I mean in the book all these characters met a bloody violent end. They didn't show much of that in the film... so really its probably less violent than the GN...

Yeah, they totally should have edited out the intimate moments that are key to the character's stories. I mean, it's just gross.
