I thoroughly enjoyed it. More looking forward to the director's cut, of course, but I liked it. For the most part, I thought it was an immensely faithful adaptation. I have a few minor beefs with it, but nothing that really detracted from my overall experience.
People are getting too hung up on the sex and violence in it. It's not a big deal--it's part of the world, of the film, and it's there to prove a point. While some of it may have been extended on, it's not like it was just added out of nowhere.
This is not an action movie. It is a compelling story that has action in it.

that's the problem for me. i feel like it was added out of nowhere. at least the intensity of it anyway. like they copied a bunch of scenes from the comic panel for panel. it seemed like they could have easily done the same thing with the rorshach kidnapper vengeance scene (for example) and it wouldn't have made it any less effective. it's like zack snyder looked at that scene and said "the more graphic the violence, the better the movie!" i don't have a problem with the sex or violence. it's part of the story. i have a problem with the random deliberate extremes they took the movie to.
That particular scene from the book was pretty brutal as well. I really don't think changing the medium by which the killer dies is going to make a huge difference in the level of violence.
Props to My Chemical Romance for making "Desolation Row" sound like "Talk Dirty to Me"! No really....it was a great walkout tune.
Funny, my teen son hated the version of the ending song.

Again, they correspond to the graphic novel. If it weren't for that, then yeah, you'd be right. I mean, 99 Luftballons, ***?
Though I hate Bob Dylan, I must admit the opening credits song was exceptionally relevant.
All Along the Watchtower and Sound of Silence were also songs I enjoyed.

one of the things i wish moore would have swallowed his pride about and actually participated in the movie. a lot of those songs were timely when the graphic novel came out, but now have no relevance, nor even appropriateness, in the context of right now.
if moore had been a part of this process, he would have at least been able to endorse substitutions that would have made the story more timely.
on the other hand, there's i guess supposed to be some level of campy dated-ness to this story, so maybe they wouldn't have changed. at its heart, watchmen was at least in part a testimony on the state of affairs in the latter part of the cold war, and especially the 80's and how the PTB were conducting themselves.

I thought the songs used all added to the over-all effect. It was supposed to feel like the late 70's, which it did quite nicely. I wouldn't have changed any of them.
Rorschach did quote his October 1985 journal entries numerous times...
And apart from Luftballons, the majority of songs featured in the movie were from the mid-to-late sixties.
