WawaWHUT? This is one confusing preamp!

There will always be someone that cooks something up in their garage and thinks that it is the greatest thing ever invented. The audio biz has been like this since there were tubes!

Then, with the high cost of building just a few by hand - especially for things like cases and PCBs - they need to sell them for a crazy price.

Oh well - good for a chuckle.

Paper in oil capacitors are real expensive and hard to find these days. Try AudioNoteUK for some. There are two volume controls on this unit, one bi-amp selector switch, and one plate overdrive switch. Don't try fender strings with this one.

"We offer a 30 day money back gurantee if you are unsatisfied with one of our Nitewalker Bass Guitar Tube Preamps for any reason. The only condition of this money back guarantee is that you send us a picture of your Bass Guitar and Amplifier, as recommended above, and a receipt showing that you tried a set of D'Addario Nickel Wound Bass Guitar Strings. The tube is not covered by this guarantee, nor is the ebay purchase fee. Return postage is the responsibility of the end-user purchaser."

What the ()*&@#???T
That's Draconian.

Are you a shill or a spammer? If not, what's your point?

Sounds to me like a whole bunch of goofy caveats so they can have 100 ways to avoid making good on their "guarantee!"

I mean, send a picture of your bass? I can see the reply now: "Oh, sorry - you used a RED bass. Our guarantee only applies to three-tone sunburst, lake placid blue, and select coffee table finishes."

Sheesh.

+1 How many people keep the receipt from a string purchase?

Just a heads-up to readers that "nbtone" here just PM'ed me to say that he is in fact the seller of this product, and he urged me to "be the first one on my block to buy one, because they won't last!":D

What a numbskull.

He's obviously proud of this "invention", and there's nothing morally objectable with any part of his business practices. He makes any caveats quite clear, has a full website with photos, description, etc...

However, that being said, I hope that this thread is a good wake-up call for his business.
If he's reading this thread, I urge him not to take it as criticism, but advice. Hopefully he can "fine-tune" his business model (eg Lower Price, No Warranty restrictions, Better selling features)

Our Nitewalker Bass Guitar Tube Preamps are an important development for Bass Guitar Players wanting a richer tone - Low register and High

It's been a few decades since bassists were suffering from lack of low and high end. Perhaps budget gear fanatics would be interested...but then again they probably don't have $1200. But in defense of this guy, how do ya think Leo Fender got started?

And "Nitewalker"!?!? Come on, my unborn child could come up with a better name than that. Fetus preamps...see! There ya go!

But in defense of this guy, how do ya think Leo Fender got started?

I couldn't tell if that was humor there, but when Leo got started there was not a whole lot on the market in that category, and the science of electric bass guitar building had not been well established yet; whereas there are hundreds of tube preamps on the market, and have been for decades, and the science is very well established. I'm not saying there's no room for improvement -certainly I hope there is- but I am saying this guy's claim to have invented something revolutionary and new is pretty bold, and it is not backed up by anything I see on that site.

And as far as improvements such as "better selling features", the key thing he needs to do is either redesign his product for use with more than one type of bass strings  or come up with a scientific explanation of why the vibrational content of one kind of strings is ideal, and why another is so non-ideal that it voids the warranty. Just as one example.
