Yes, you do. Some question nerdily if Neuromancer is really the origin, rather than Johnny Mnemonic (5 years earlier, one of the short stories in that collection.) I also highly recommend Spook Country for some "no chips in your head yet" good reading.

FWIW, most of W.G.'s books come in trilogies, so you have to read all three, in order!

"Pattern Recognition" -> "Spook Country" -> "Zero History"

...or my favorite (maybe?) "Virtual Light" -> "Idoru" -> "All Tomorrow's Parties"

The fingerboard has a sort of binding that had separated, so a bit of gluing required:

Monster slab of poplar cut roughly to shape:

RD's are notoriously heavy so I went with a lighter wood like poplar. Still, I need to plane off about 3/8" thickness and chamber to reduce the weight to something reasonable.

The screen should display static on startup, just for a subtle Snow Crash reference.

Now you have me thinking of how to write the splash screen.

Quick check to see if I have enough carbon fiber for the pickguards:

And some left over for a TRC
The GFS neck was a factory second; the headstock was about 3/4" thick, a little sawing later... and we're down to about 1/2"

I'll shape and smooth out the rest with a rasp.

Neck progress
Headstock has been cleaned up, I added a maple veneer to ensure a smooth surface

Also cut the cherry top to shape

Still a lot of wood to remove around the neck, I'll cut that out after routing out the neck pocket.

Created a template for routing the neck pocket:

Layout for the guitar controls; I decided to go with a FreeWay 6 position blade switch: this gives me the following options: Neck, Bridge, Both Parallel, Both Out of Phase Parallel, Both Series, Both Series Out of Phase:
