And a lot of people don't know what the bassist's name is, but they sure as heck know the guitarists' name and the singer's name. It's drivin me crazy. Plus, we don't get as much respect as the guitarists do. Have you ever heard a kid say "When I grow up, I wanna be a bass player." No it's always "When I grow up I wanna be a guitar player." or "When I grow up I wanna be a drummer." or "When I grow up I wanna be a singer." Does any one else out there feel the same way?

If it's any consolation, outside of your age group, nobody knows the names of the guitarists or singers either. :D

what exactly do you mean by 'dominant bass'?
if you mean bass is sitting on top of everything else, then that is just a bad mix. like i said before bass shouldn't dominate, it should compliment and 'fill out' the sound.

try:
sevendust, pantera, linkin park, limp bizkit, alice in chains, faith no more, skinlab, motorhead, black sabbath, queen.... the list goes on
and if you can't hear bass in rock music, maybe it's because you think you're hearing guitar....

Welllll I want to play! Lets see.... oh!... Dethklok (the music you hear when watching Metalocalypse) consists of ONE guitarist and ONE drummer. The guitarist, [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] and creator of the show, uses a Gibson Les Paul to create all the 'basslines', its why Murderface is soooo funny trying to gain recognition (and fails) as the bassist, why Nathan Explosion talks about mixing out the bass all the time.... IT ISN'T THERE! Its a joke, a joke! A run on a cliche that bassists are ugly, dumb and unappreciated.

Sid Vicious SUCKED on bass, but everyone knows (who knows of him) he played because he was such a wanker on stage. Paul McCartney? Most people don't know he even played the bass in the Beatles without looking at video footage, but everyone knows he sang.

Anyway, my point; its what you do with the damn thing that matters! Billy Gould, Les Claypoole, Flea, Jaco, Steve Harris, DD Ramone! (just kidding) these guys were frontmen, and good, thats why they were known. Well, Bill Gould wasn't really a frontman, but his bass was upfront in most songs.

Quick, name the guitarist in Primus (no wiki look up allowed)... how many can do it? Not many, because Claypoole dominates that band's marketing, mostly, because he's f***ing great at it! (playing and marketing).

Anyhoo, to the OP, mate, sweetcakes, junior, monseniour, whatever you like bro, stop worrying about what f'ing 'mainstream' tells you is respectable, and just do what feels right to you. So long as you don't hurt anyone, anything you do for you is the right thing to do.

Oh, and I call upon all here to NEVER LET THIS THREAD DIE!!!! Its just too amusing. Let's not let a thread about how unimportant we all are become unimportant to us. :D

Thanks man. Some people don't think that this thread is important. They also don't realize that this might be very important to others who don't want to make their presence known because they fear that they'll be judged.

If it makes any of you happier, I am learning how to play Hey there Delilah by The Plain White T's. I'm gonna modify the lyrics so I can record it and send the recording to the girl I wanna go out with, and yes. I do know the Hey there Delilah is a couples song.

Wether or not the music brings in money, girls, and/or fame doesn't matter. What does matter is that the music sounds great, and that you enjoyed making it. And God forbid some body try's to steal the music I make.

Yes. They also all played drums as well. Drove Ringo half mad. Paul was actually a guitarist for a long time in the band, until the departure of Stuart Sutcliffe forced him to switch. The best part is that the bass player was also the best guitar player in the group. The solo in Taxman? Paul. Suck on that, elitist guitar players!!!

Nobody wants to see their favorite artists get caught up in the cycle of self destruction that is starting to become more common now days like what happened to Motley Crüe and that other band. I forget the name of the band, but I remember that it had a female lead singer and two brothers were in the band and they decided to leave so the band broke up.
