I've been to quite a few actually.
This may come off as rude.... but in general, if an old guy is telling you about what metal is, ignore him. They have no clue what it's really about.
Once could say the same thing about a young guy and Jazz...

That's funny as hell. And almost as bad as saying that nothing but inbreeding rednecks live in Kentucky.
If Geezer Butler is telling you what metal is, ignor him? He's 62. I think he "founded" metal!
How about Jason Newsted? 47. Turned it all up a notch with pretty much the biggest metal band in the last 20 years.
Tom Araya? He just turned 49. I SERIOUSLY doubt that old guy has no clue.
Steve Harris? 55.......
Should I, or do I need to go on???
Crikey, reading The Voiceless's posts really shows up why the semi-******** metalhead stereotype continues to exist.
It really is sad, because most guys out there aren't bothered about the macho-stereotype or having to portray anything of the image The Voiceless seems to enjoy. In all honesty, most of them are guys who just like to listen to music.
While I don't expect anyone to like all the same music as I do, I think its a tad foolish to judge all metalheads, or even most metalheads to be anything like The Voiceless. He isn't representative of the average metal fan any more than the unemployed, broke guy, scrounging off his girlfriend and playing a gig to four people stereotype is really representative of the average jazz musician.
The reason stereotypes like this persist is because "the squeaky wheel gets oiled", people like The Voiceless make so much noise that you can't hear any of the normal guys who just dig the music underneath it.
lol, thanks for the praise dude. I' really here to tell a story, not to brag or vent. It was an interesting night and I thought I'd share.
The Crazy Donkey and every other place under the Club Loaded banner have gone to crap man. Nobody goes there for national acts and they still like to charge local bands to play. Luckily we're in the middle when it comes to pay-to-play venues: pay nothing, get nothing.
It was this placed called Oxygen, formerly Sundance, formerly The Edge, formerly Blue. Like I said earlier, it's nice and used to be a cool spot for band. It wasn't some crappy dive like I read a few dozen times in this thread....IT WAS A NICE PLACE!
I'm done with this thread. I enjoyed the constructive criticism/outright hate. I have a gig on Sunday, same place from this thread: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=708276&highlight=
Hopefully I DON'T have a story to tell this time
Funny story: when we booked the 2nd gig the guy said I had to bring my cabinet because "Someone broke it about a month ago"![]()

never even heard the song, and whether or not i can play it is irrelevant.....i tend not to hang around in places frequented by adolescents that would consider booing as a worth while way to express displeasure....i get why you don't feel sorry for the guy that got booed.....hopefully time and circumstance may inject a little much needed humility your way, when you discover that you are nowhere near good as you think you are.....
I wonder if Geezer Butler and Steve Harris are talking about how young guys have no clue what Metal is really about.
Really it doesn't have to do with age, as Metal is a more mature genre of music than it used to be. But, I wouldn't listen to someone who hates or is indifferent to Metal telling me what it's all about, regardless of age. It's like a guy who hates cheese, is allergic to tomatoes, and never heard of dough telling you how to make a Pizza.
and I could easily blow you out of the water in musical ability and intelligence.
Have you heard him play? What makes you think that? Sounds like you made a big old assumption and have no problem stating as fact any silly unprovable idea that passes through your head. Can you prove this? I know I wouldn't be making that claim randomly on this site, there are some monster players lurking in every corner.
Speech without any thought might be considered ********.
As for older guys not getting it, thats just silly. If Picasso had a look at a kindergarden childs painting do you really think the child could just say "Picasso is to old to get my style"... Talk about foolish. Of course he can't.
Older people are generally wiser than young people, they have seen a lot more. Music is music, there is good and bad, fast and slow, loud and quiet. All the genere BS is just a way of saying "I limit myself to this techinque or set of techniques"
To think metal is made up of some different language just means you really don't understand music. A musician of any genere can look at any style and tell you the tempo, key, progression and phrasing, And the older they are and longer they have done it the more accurate they are.
I'm sorry but most metalheads I know don't know much about any other styles of music. They have created an image of themselves that is wrapped in metal and are too boxed into that to discover the beauty in other styles.

important piece of music.

Ok so I am retarted, Nice. Wow! Can you be more of a douche? Really?? You are way out of line, and I could easily blow you out of the water in musical ability and intelligence.
Please mister troll explain how finding humor in a story makes one ********? Guess you don't watch movies like the Hangover, or the Big Labowski. Truth is its funny story. But some how your small brain has you confused. I am not the person in the story. I just found humor in the antics of the night.
But whatever, really truth is he was a hero at some points of the night.
Club owner double books, screws bands and fans over and the poster calls him on it. Hero in my book.
Hack musician charges people to come to a professional event ( remember this is a club not your childs christmas recital) and can't find the time to learn a very important bass line in musical history? Really? He should be ashamed. How many of you besides myself spend long hours practicing? So he got booed, Big deal. So did Tommy Lee at Rolling Rock Fest, but I doubt you would come to his defense. Why because he is successful?
Get a clue buddy.![]()
That is just your opinion, I know lots of metal guys that don't think Lars and company are really all that much.
From a Drumming perspective Lars can hardly play. I'm sure they deserve a lot of credit for record sales. But baloney outsells steak so that isn't a very strong argument.

In defense to the poster, I am assuming he means old people NOT into metal music which is a pretty decent generalization. And even then how does Geezer Butler have an opinion on Attack Attack? Maybe he is hip to what is new, and possibly did some research before forming an opinion.
Dude,
Come back to me, I'm losing you........ Who is talking about Lars??? Truth is for people in my generation and a majority of metal fans are Metallica fans, or even more fans of the late but great Cliff Burton. So when some hack does not feel the need to learn a simple intro for a PAYING gig and a fan of the song/artist/Cliff hears this he has the right to boo. What I would have done is really irrelevant, but some like to turn it like I was the one booing, chances are I would have turned around a walked out. But I guess that does not matter since you already think I'm the guy who booed.
Ok so I am retarted, Nice. Wow! Can you be more of a douche? Really?? You are way out of line, and I could easily blow you out of the water in musical ability and intelligence. ...etc...etc...
Because unlinke most people I do practice everyday and I am well aware of my abilities.
And when attacked my tail does not go between my legs.
