We got bumped for.....Pitbull?

glad I'm just a snooty jazz musician, I couldn't handle the unprofessional atmosphere and troglodytic antics of said "metal world"

interesting story, though, amusing also the OP probably didn't expect to get slammed by other posters.

"Troglodytic" ... ooooooo, I love that and steal it for my own purposes. When I was in France, we drove through the Loire Valley, where numerous troglodytes reside.

Behold...the mighty KILLJOY?

Those guys look like they know how to eat.

If that is OP's band, and his avatar suggests it is, then he needs to grow up. I thought I was reading a diatribe by a 15 year old, not a "grown" man.... All that weed smoking and booze tanning?

Firstly, smoking weed on the job is unprofessional. If the club owner was aware of that he would not be cool with you bringing stuff like that into his club. You basically pissed allover his venue. Imagine that his club was randomly searched prior to the show? He would get in trouble as well. Bragging about smoking weed is really uncool. It might be metal, but it is still lame.

As for getting booted for Pitbull, stuff like that happens. Not every club owner is a genius at planning and organising. They would be running a string of clubs if that was the case, not some random little club that gives no-name metal bands a gig once in a while. Stuff like this stinks, there is always going to be some heartbreak at a gig, you got it slightly worse than some but it is still nothing compared to what Jimmy posted for example. Grow up.

Right on everything you said. But:

No, bragging about smoking weed is NOT metal. Metal is music and = very cool when well played.

However, the OP's insistence on telling us about his weed smoking (as tho that is somehow therefore cool) is, I agree, what is so very lame.

Note: I was actually thinking 16, not 15.

Where to begin on this one........

Getting double booked and losing out on a gig does suck. I'm sure lots of us have been there before. Must especially suck if you fought through hours of traffic and paid $30 in tolls in LI.

On the other hand, one thing I learned in college is when people tell tales of getting wasted, drunk, stoned, etc. but are able to recall the evening in fine detail, most of the time they are full of s***.
- If someone buys you 3-4 beers, it's not a CRAPLOAD of beer. And bragging about how you got drunk for free on 3-4 beers isn't really impressive. But, maybe the weed was real strong.
- Getting called to play on a weekday night for a last minute gig for a split of the door doesn't mean that you're a great, in-demand band. It usually means someone else cancelled. Acting cocky because of that?!?!
- If the band is so tough, then why does the drummer have a hard time saying "no" to someone playing his drums, or the OP with playing with the other band. The "maybe" tells me they can't handle confrontation, and thus leads me to believe there's plenty of other embellishment on the posturing going on. I mean if you're tough enough to be ready to punch a dude in the face, you're tough enough to say "no", right?
- Pitbull is a national act. Maybe not your thing, but the OP is trying to tell us more people came to see some local metal bands than a guy who performs nationally, is on the Billboard charts, and performs with artists like Eminem and Cypress Hill. Sure....... If I were Pitbull, I'd be pissed that I was double-booked with some local Metal bands.

Waving your e-penis on TB is a surefire way to get it lopped off.

But, maybe I'm wrong on this, but I do have my suspicions that there is at least embellishment in the story.

Sounds like if this story the op was telling was missing the weed, lacked talking about other people sucking and didn't act cocky........ I could probably digest it..... Op, take a look around you, e-penises die every day...........

And yes, you got bumped by Pitbull, deal with it...

I figured I'd get a few mixed reactions.

@undead bass, CS is doing awesome. They tore the roof off the place.

1. To everyone who jumped on me for mentioning I smoked with a friend in another band and got drunk that night...get off the soapbox. There's A LOT of musicians that smoke weed and drink before gigs. There's someone more famous than you RIGHT NOW shooting dope about to play a gig in front of a packed club, I think having a few beers and smoking a blunt (that was offered to me) before a show that was destined to never happen isn't a bad thing.

2. I know I could have acted a little bit more classy that night but I was A. drunk and B. getting stepped on. Sorry for standing up for myself. I didn't feel I was disrespecting anybody that didn't deserve it. Obviously I was making scene, but not once did someone tell me I was out of line.

3. uuuuuh, where's my bong man?

4. I'm 100% an ******* for booing that guy. No questions about it. I felt bad, and made a point about it in the original post. The only reason I included that in my post was his line at the end made me giggle.

Hmmmm

There are times when I'm glad I'm a not a kid anymore.

Reading this thread is one of them.... But even when I was a kid, I didn't do this sort of thing, the whole posturing/metal/stoner thing. It's just so... Lame. Sorry OP, but there it is.

Well, as you mention twice (1. and 2.) you were drunk at a gig where you were to perform-----there's no soap-boxing involved by respondents.
Lots of non-professionalism involved though. Learn from it and carry on.

Psst---just because you did not hear anyone tell you that you were out of line (when you admit you were) does not mean you therefore were not out of line. Just sayin'.

I am not sure what you mean when you say, "he had it coming".

You need to remember that most of your audience are non-musicians. Thus, it will not be obvious that a particular song is being played "incorrectly". As a matter of fact, I bet that a lot of people think that the beginning to that Metallica song is a guitar; because the bass is distorted.

The bass player might be a beginner and thus, not able to hear all of the bass parts (which is normal on Meticalla songs). Or perhaps, he got the bass part from reading some published Metallica piano notation; which are 70% accurate at best.

Instead of booing him, you should have shown some support and perhaps talk to him after the set. If he is receptive to some constructive criticism, tell him how the bass part on the song is played.

Once again, I'm a jerk for doing that. I admit this. He "had it coming" because he didn't play his part, which was incredibly easy. I learned my lesson there, I'm never booing again.

Although, I know the intro for Bells, I also have played in pickup bands where I learned the song on the spot because it was called out, requested, or added last minute to the set list. It may even been a song I never heard before.

This is the sole reason I stopped playing in metal bands. Why anyone feels the need to present themselves in that way is beyond me.

EDIT: I distinctly remember the day I cut my long hair off, and the guitarist's reaction was "You look like a ******* Backstreet Boy." L.O.L.

Here's my humble theory....

Men tend to exhibit better behavior around females. Because there's rarely many females at a Metal show, there's less reason for the dudes to be less of pr***. It's a big-a$$ locker room with booze and drugs added.

And this is from a guy who loves Metal.

So you're theory is that this is all a matter of mating behavior?

Interesting... Makes more sense then anything to do with actual music!
