I was undecided until I saw @kesslari in his Ultimate hat of Badassitude. I've since decided that not only was that the best hat for metal it was the best hat for everything.

I rarely wear hats on stage. Not that I don't like them. I just don't like wearing them much nowadays, unless I'm in full sun. I have a full head of hair, and hats just make my head itch.

I do a Country / Classic Rock thing... I am fat, middle aged and quite balding, so yeah, I wear a hat.

Or more correctly one of a selection of hats, depending on the gig.

Black Beaver felt Stetson "Toby Keith" hat. (Bought it at Cracker Barrel something like 10 years ago).
Walmart straw cowboy hat. New one every summer because, they fall apart pretty fast. Good thing they are cheap.
Assortment of camo ball caps.

Just remembered that I was really interested in getting a nudu hat and channeling my inner Billy Gibbons...until I found out how expensive and labor intensive they are.

You can get your girlfriend to make one for you.

I usually do, whether it is just a wool hat, or my main gigging hat, a hat that a former student from India brought back for me after one her trips home to visit family years ago.

Do you wear a hat while playing?. The right hat on the right person looks great. I personally can’t stand anything on my head, but do sometimes wonder what would be a cool hat to wear.
I’ve always liked the look of a bowler hat like Stan Laurel wore, but I’m not going to shell out that kind of dough if I was too embarrassed to wear it. Not to mention it would have to be the right sort of band/gig.
My hair’s gone on permanent vacation , so if I’m outdoors in the summer I have no choice but to wear a ball cap to keep from frying.

I never knew that Stan was a bass player.

Not for me personally as I like my mohawk, but 2 of the 3 members in my country trio wear cowboy hats. I agree that a good hat can be a very good look.

As for the ball cap...I understand the utility and practicality of a ball cap and maybe even it's necessity depending on the weather. However, I have yet to see a single performer wearing a ball cap in a rock or country setting that made me think "That's a great look!"

I like hats because it helps my sensitivity to bright lights. I struggle to keep my eyes open for pics when a flash is used. When I'm on stage with pro lighting , I look pissed because I'm squinting from the lights. With a hat, I'm fine.
