Weekend warrior PA set up thread.. what are you using?

I have an EV EKX 15" sub that I'm very happy with. I use it with QSC K10.2 tops. I have not seen a huge price difference between the EV EKX line and, say, the QSC Kx.2 line of boxes. Just looked online and see that the K12.2 and the EV EKX12p are both showing up @ $999, with the Yamaha DXR 12s coming up @ $895

the Yamaha subs seem to get a bad rap, I am mixing on DXR12s next week will be curious to hear them.
I think the older Yamaha sub lines (non-XLF models) didn't get a lot of praise. The new Yamaha subs are loud. I have a single DXS18XLF. It has a ton of DSP features and really moves some air. I used it at an outside gig in a 20 acre field and it carried the kick drum and a little bit of my bass without a problem. Of course 2 or more would have been better but my sound guy said he never felt like we were lacking any low end.

I just upgraded from RCF ART315a 15" mains and a pair of BFM Titan 39 (DIY kit) subs. My rig is probably overkill for my cover band – but it's essential for the 9-piece Motown/Dance wedding band that I run sound for. I was previously using the wedding band's JBL PRX mains/subs – I've always fought a lack of clarity/definition between instruments and vocals, and a sense of harshness when things are going full-tilt. I'm hoping/expecting that my new RCFs will be a significant improvement in sound quality and ease-of-use.

I've been on a microphone binge lately. The wedding band's three lead singers use Beta 58a mics. It sounds OK with the female singer, but thin and harsh with the two male vocalists – especially when they dig in. I've rounded up a bunch of mics for them to audition – Audio-Technica AE6100, Senn 935, Heil PR35, Miktek PM9, SE v7, EV n/d767a. I'm looking for stronger mids and a smoother top end out of the box – yes, I know how to EQ, but I'd rather start with something that requires less effort to sound right.

I went ahead and ordered a pair of DZR12s, I am sure ill probably order a pair of DXS15XLFs as well. then maybe sell my IQ stuff, and get more.
Congrats. The DZR's were my 2nd choice, but I got too good of a deal on the RCF NX32's. My buddy owns the previous model Yamaha DSR12's, which are probably similar to the DZR. One of these days we are going to get together and compare the systems side-by-side. I imagine the systems are comparable, and any difference in sound can easily be compensated with a little EQ. The Yamaha's have the edge on factor warranty: 7 years vs. 3 for RCF.

ha! nice!. But I'm guessing you're really not in the usual weekend warrior category.

Wow, whilst different in many ways, that reminds me of my old rig.
My new Church has live music, but an awful PA so I'm thinking about rebuilding for that and some other local gigs; I miss performing live and doing SR/FOH for others.

I did a few outdoor shows using the F1 system in bath Maine last summer for the Chocolate Church. They lacked a bit in the low end but I liked using the,=m. I found the ability to adjust the angle of the tops came in handy. They are exp. and heavy.

Follow up - I just bought a pair of the tops from the F1 system. I think they are model 812, not sure. Looking forward to getting them and using my QSC KS112 Subs. I had upgraded my tops to Presonus CDL12P. Great speakers but at 62 pounds I just couldn't lift them up onto stands. Sweetwater took them back and sent out the F1 tops. should be here soon.

Small Mackie board with old rack Reverb unit into too heavy QSC, House JBL 1-15/horn cabs, usually on the floor. Vocals, Keys and maybe Bass Bleed for fullness, no drum mikes. Playing a mix of Pop, Rock, Blues. I do the mix on stage. Relatively low volume band. For a long time we had no monitors just pointed one or both of the cabs in a bit. Now with a newer singer we are adding a small floor wedge for her, not on this porch gig.

26466940[/URL], member: 168890"]We had one of those and I hated it. Nothing wrong with the gear but for mixing from stage, having to use a laptop or tablet is far more fiddly and less intuitive than the physical knobs on a traditional mixer.
I know I am replying to an old post, but would add that this is my conclusion as well. I sold my large PA 3 years ago. I had an x32 and an ar 18th. They are really, cool, but I am thinking of a simple new FOH build. And instead of going high end and digital, I am strongly considering going back to a simple analog mixer with less expensive everything. Something like a simple Yamaha 12 channel mixer and a pair of active 12’s for mains. Stage amps so only vocals. I would prefer 10s with a single 15” sub, but there are some inexpensive 12’s on the market that don't sound bad. MG12U Yamaha and Mackie Thump 12XT pair will do 80% of everything I was doing with the larger rig. This would be a simple bar band type rig. Monitors maybe go simple IE connected not wireless.

I have a PreSonus 16.4.2 (older model, but just starting to use it) with lots of nice features... most of which I've got figured out,

12” RCF mains/mons (40+ lbs), JBL 18”XLF Subs (85lbs)...

My guitar player has some great little 10” QSCs and a small QSC sub, I have a Yamaha MG16/6FX which has enough channels/inputs/features to do the band, and the guitar player has a higher-end one the same size (the brand eludes me at the moment).

We all know how to behave on stage such that I think we can get away without other rack processing typically used...

Yeah, I'm thinking about it. :cigar:

I got my DZR12s on friday, have 2 gigs on them already, they are very nice and a huge improvement on my Turbosound IQ12s, highs are crisper, mids clearer, I also got one of the DXS15XLF subs, but I am waiting on the second before I start gigging them.

The only annoying this is the Speaker covers for the DZR12s, which they had in stock when i placed my order, are now on back order for 6-8 weeks, apparently by the time they entered my order, someone else had scooped them.
