I was in the Hollywood Amoeba today and scored 1 of the 2 items on my list; they didn't have any Dyke & the Blazers compilations but I did snag a DVD of the Stax '67 Europe tour (Norway show). I also grabbed a few back issues of Bass Player for $1ea, ranging from '91 to '08. In the 2008 issue, there was a full page ad for a bass amp called the "Forge Bass System" - 2100 watts into a tri-amped enclosure about the size of a 6-10 cab. The head was barely larger than today's class D, SPS marvels, but it was advertised as including a seven tube preamp section!. Based on the photo, this claim seems physically impossible, but.....
Reading fiurther, the amp was divided into three sections, 1000 watts for the sub, 800 for the main bass section and 300 watts for the high end. The cabinet included 1-18, 4-10 and 3-5 and the cab was advertised as lightweight at only 125lbs.
I'm pretty sure that I've never heard or read about these before, and I'm damn sure that I've never actually seen one in person. Has anyone out there had any actual experience with these things? How much did they cost new? Did they actually sell any - meaning, are there used "Forge" amps in rehearsal spaces or on Craigslist?
