Weird post gig interactions

Was playing a large trailer park a few years ago for their season ending dance- during the obligatory playing of Sweet Caroline an attractive woman came on stage and was gyrating around me - thinking nothing of it I continued playing the song - only for her to come up behind me and tweak my nipples :D - photographic does exist somewhere but that picture is one that did not get posted to Facebook for some reason ;)

I've two weird encounters. One was between sets over 30 years ago. I went to the men's room to take a dump. The stalls did not have doors on them. I heard the door to the men's room open and then heard a couple of guys talking. The next thing I know, one of them is standing in front of me and saying, "Wow, you're the bass player". Then he called to his friend "Hey check it out, the bass player is in here taking a crap". Then he said no way. I can't believe the bass player is in here". This went on for about a minute. I finally told them to leave me alone and I would buy them a beer when I got out. They kept talking so I grabbed some toilet paper, wiped myself and then I extended my hand to shake hands with the guy. I still had the used toilet paper in my hand. He actually shook my hand then he started laughing. Looking back on it, it was probably a dumb thing to do on my part but I was aggravated that they wouldn't leave me alone.

The second one was about 10 years ago. We finished the gig and I was talking to my wife while I was waiting to get paid. A woman walked up to me and told she had a hotel room down the street and wanted to know what I was doing when I left the club. I told her that I was going home with my wife. Then she asked what my guitar player was doing. I said " I don't know, he's over there with his wife. Why don't you go ask him". She walked out. My wife laughed asked how often that happens. I said "Not often enough or maybe once too often. It really depends on your point of view". I'm lucky that my wife has a great sense of humor and is not insecure.

And that was it. Nothing else happened. She walked me to the door and said "goodnight". Turns out she just felt like making breakfast for someone..... View attachment 3100939

Hey, I love breakfast. Nothing wrong with that!

Last weekend....Lakeside bar full of entitled rich people.
Drunk bro walks up on stage and asks which one of us is sleeping with our lead singer.

Any guesses what happened next?

No idea, but smart-a that I am, I would've answered, "What day is it?"

One night I pulled my car around to the back door to load out my gear. It was a BMW, for which I make no apologies; I have a successful career and like nice cars.

Dude standing there gives me a load of grief about the car. Per him, if I am spending money on a car like that, I'm not investing enough into the band. I should be buying studio time, advertising, radio play, bunch of other stuff on his list.

I asked him how he knew I wasn't also doing those things.

I had a 60 year old lady ask me if I knew who Jaco was. Then tell me she knew him and show me pictures of his family's home in Fort Lauderdale. That was just after the 1st set. The rest of the night she was hounding me for different reasons and wanting to talk music with me when all I wanted to do was go outside and get fresh air. ( 4 hr cover gigs, got to love them). Mostly it is guys who either say you play a Fender awesome or you play a Fender , Why?

Bass players are a magnet for this stuff, I swear...

I’ve had my fair share of weird stuff when I used to tour. Had an interesting pre-show interaction. We were playing the after party for a big horror/b movie convention, so naturally I was in costume. A cow costume. With a giant foam cowboy hat. I was setting my stuff up, when I hear someone trying to get my attention. I’m fiddling with my stuff, so I kinda ignore it, but he keeps up, so when I’m done, I look up, and lo and behold, it’s Peewee F’ing Herman, and he’s asking to take a picture with me!

Little background info: as a child, I was a Peewee LUNATIC. Had the drawstring doll, watched the movies religiously, the television series, etc...

So I was actually star struck! I said “of course, but only if I can get a pic on my camera, too!”

So now there exists a pic of me, Paul Reubens, and my guitar player. And it’s awesome.

I will always win these threads, just for the sheer number of times I've heard the phrase "You play pretty good for a crippled guy."

There was (is?) a band here in San Diego called Big Toe. Lead singer/bass player was born with no arms. Plays bass with his feet, bass on the floor with head stock resting on a bible. Dude is rock solid. Met him for the first time 27 years ago, and have had zero excuses for my shortcomings on bass since.

He, and you, are just bass players. Well done sir. :)

So.... I cant be the only bass player to have weird crap like this happen. How many of you have played in front of pissed off guys who didn't get the job? What other weird post show shenanigans have been pointed at you?

I was in a cover band in the NW Florida area from 1984 - 1987. We played mainly dive bars and military base enlisted clubs. Once time, our drummer booked us a gig at a country bar just over the state line in Alabama. Apparently, the owner decided he would branch out and get rock bands into his bar to see how that would do.

We showed up, set up and played our first set. The locals were not happy. Nobody in the place seemed ready to take the plunge into mainstream 80's rock with us. Billy Idol, Van Halen, ZZ Top, The Outfield, etc...

In the second set, a fellow who had been sourly watching us just stepped up onstage (it was only a few inches high) and stood right in front of me, trying to make eye contact. I didn't know what to do, so I just kept playing and pretended he wasn't there. He kept trying to say something, which of course I couldn't hear because... we were playing a song.

So he stood there until we finished the song, leaned into my mic and said, "Play some Bocephus." Several people in the audience yelled. My band mates were amused by my situation and were looking on to see what I would do.

I said, "I'm sorry, we don't know any 'Bocephus', but how would you like to hear some Skynyrd?"

That was good enough for him and he sat down.

We usually played "Gimme Three Steps" later in the set but we launched into it immediately.

After that set (the 2nd of 4 we were supposed to play), I seem to recall we had a quick meeting with the owner/manager and called it a night. I think we got paid half, but that was fine, since we didn't want to get murdered or anything.

I found out later what "Bocephus" meant.

Mine was more funny than weird. It was after we got done with a performance at a theater that our drummer had subbed out. As we were packing up, I said, "well, another day, another 55 bucks" (this was many years ago). The sub drummer piped up and said, "$55? [Regular drummer] told me it paid $30!" Awkward silence. All during the rest of the run we needled our regular drummer mercilessly about that.
