A Sea Shanty has lyrics, a Hornpipe does not. I think.
The Tubular Bells hornpipe is the theme tune to the BBC kids program Blue Peter.

A sea shanty is a working song (or at least that was how they started). A hornpipe is a dance. I guess you can work and dance at the same time, though I bet it's hard (if The Deadliest Catch is anything to go by).

I love the fact that the rhythm of the shanty was used to coordinate people doing the same work tasks. Much better than Agile.
