The only reason i scrolled through this page was to find if anyone said exactly this. I agree with op but it's also very hypocritical, and why here?

Holy crap....how did it get to this. As others who have commented on the article state, why is the default position of do-gooders and nanny-staters these days to bring those with perceived unfair advantage down to the level of the disadvantaged rather than making more effort to bring the disadvantaged up.

Boy, do I agree with this! This has been one of my pet peeves for many years. Every military man/woman is now labeled a "hero". Every cop is a hero.

I'm a Vietnam vet (K-9). I'm also retired from a career in law enforcement. I know some heroes, but I'm no hero. I just did my job, as did/do a lot of others. Here's one thing I know for sure. Not everybody who has been in the military is a hero. Not every cop is a hero. Some are, for sure. A certain degree of respect, or at least appreciation is due to all who serve; but to call everybody a hero cheapens the actions of the true heroes.

Our accolades should be reserved for those who did something truly heroic. Otherwise, we're doing the very things that caused this thread to be created. "EVERYBODY gets a trophy." "Let's not keep score, lest somebody get their feelings hurt and (gasp!) feel like a loser". Guess what? Almost every game has a winner and a loser. So does life. Get over it. To label every veteran and every cop a "hero" just stokes the "nobody ever loses" attitude so prevalent today. Appreciate and acknowledge the true heroes; but don't dilute the term so much that it no longer means anything.

I heard a psychiatrist say on the radio

" Parents should stop reading to their children because it disadvantages those children whose parents DON'T read to them"

Instead of getting all parents to read to their kids he tells all parents to stop reading to them lol

What parents DON'T read to their kids? Take the kids off them,they aren't fit to raise a rat let alone a human.

You need a license to drive a car but any idiot is allowed to rear children......

I even feel uncomfortable when someone finds out I'm a veteran and says, "Thank you for your service." It was just something I did and, while it ostensibly put my life in danger (but not actually), I just did my job for which I got paid. No one thanks me for my service to the companies I worked for.

Now this is not to diminish the sacrifices that so many service men and women have made during times of armed conflict. But let me ask this question: If a serviceman is wounded by, say, an IED while riding in a Humvee from one place to another, is he a hero? Another way of putting it is, does a Purple Heart automatically make you a hero?

I'd like to throw in "masterpiece" as well.


I'm working with a guy on his CD which he told me would be a masterpiece by the time we got done with it.


He got very upset when I expressed my thought that very few albums are considered masterpieces by me.




Him: "Why won't it be a masterpiece?"


Me: "Well, for one thing, you are rhyming "I'm gonna sing a little louder" with "I'll be hotter than a cup of clam chowder"........." :rollno:

Most of the people I went in the military with, and served with, went for the same reasons. A job, college money, chance to see other places, have a wider selection of people to sleep with. No one ever spoke of patriotism or serving something greater than themselves. We did our duty because it was our job.

Fast forward 20 years to my Facebook page and you'll find some of the greatest, most selfless heroes you'll ever meet. If only I had known then drinking gallons of beer, doing my job and chasing tail were patriotic acts I would have bragged more.

Point is we have a right to be proud we served, but some of us go way overboard on just how special we were.

That's from the article I posted a link to on page one.... and is exactly my point. These days they want to bring the over-achievers down rather than trying to bring the under achievers up. Everyone's a winner....which means that nobody is.
