What 5 string bass has the best feeling/playing neck?

This question is absitively posolutely subjective, but I'll answer anyway. :p The best five-string neck I've ever played is the MTD USA 535: the asymmetrical profile fit my fretting hand perfectly. I sold my 535 in favor of a Sadowsky fiver because I prefer a more traditional tone and Sadowsky has the best symmetrical neck profile I've played, but I miss the asymmetrical 535 neck profile.

I gotta say, as much as I love my Sadowskys I have yet to fall in love with the neck on my NYC 5. :atoz:

Oh Thor, you just love those old '63 C neck P-basses that Rhode Island Music in Pawtucket sold most of us, now don't you???...those weird guys were so so so so...heck I miss them, even if they were from Central Falls---oops, I miss Cenral Faws, too!...:D :D :D

As I resurrect my own thread from the dead and have gotten to try a ton more basses since then. I'm narrowing my favorite 5vers neck profiles to these basses for now. If you have any input on the others please chime in

1. Nordy VJ5
3. Lakland DJ5
2. Ken Smith

There are some basses I'm really curious about that I have not got my hands on:

LEJ - that design looks like an awful lot of thought went into that
Elrick
Jerzy Drozd
Eliezer Lara

If you are asking about the total bassist neck experience, I'd have to say my Modulus graphite neck. Personally (unlike some players) I love the cold feel of a graphite neck along with the action, stability, and look.

But if you are simply talking neck profile, I must say that my Squier P/J 5er is my best liked profile and my Fender Jazz Deluxe V is my least liked profile. Go figure. All others sort of fall somewhere in between.

I tend to favor fatter profiles (SX, G&L) as opposed to thin fast ones (Ibby), but the above still stands.

What 5 string bass has the best feeling/playing neck?

I like my 5 string frankensteined SG bass. It looks cool, it feels great in my hands, and I have really good upper fret access.

Agreed with these - although my previously owned BFR SR5 HH with the roasted neck/ebony board was very pretty, the Sterling 5 HS that replaced it is a better fit for me... That, and the SR5 Classic necks are about as good as it gets for 34" production 5 string necks, IMO...
