What a P Bass Sounds Like...

-in a pickup even farther forward, like single coil P, it becomes a grunt, again more closed-mouthed.

I'm not saying it's "one trick"; I'm saying I think this belch is characteristic, and the way it's dealt with creates variety.

My band:


On the track Albert Camus I use my Ray34, but on the other two it's a stock 2011 Fender AmStd P, all through a Verellen Meatsmoke into a miked up Barefaced 610. Not your classic P sound, perhaps. I replaced the pickup with a Curtis Novak PB-90 a few years back, and that was a whole new world. Wish I had done that before recording.

I am sure it sounds great but I don't do spotify are anything else that I can't just click and play...sorry ;),

Not trying to compare but, there's a little Echo & the Bunnymen thing, to me, that I like, going on :)


And it worked for me, the playback.

The word "burp" is used to describe part of the sound made by a J bridge pickup, and although it doesn't sound exactly like a burp we all know what it refers to. Similarly, since the corresponding sound made by a P pickup is deeper and longer lasting, I think the word "belch" works very well, pretty obviously too, to me.

The thread doesn't seem to like that word, "belch", but I ask you, "would a [belch] by any other name smell as sweet"?
