See this is what I find interesting on TB. Most people will defend a guy like Kirk with no regard to his obvious blatant disregard for others. They will defend him because most likely they will buy this product. Why? Probably because unlike some of us, they don't take an interest in who is developing products and the people behind them. That's fine. Totally fine. It's like buying a TV. You don't have to know the builders. But with pedals, it's so much easier to see these guys. I've known and talked to many, many pedal builders. And yes there is a community with them. A lot of them are friends even though they are competition. Why? Well, I would assume their lives are more meaningful than just a dollar sign. Unlike Kirk, who would probably endorse anything to make a buck. Well, not just Kirk, let's not limit it. Really any rock star of his stature.

It has NOTHING to do with being offended. People that are saying that are just using it as an excuse to be jerks. I'm sorry but that's true. You don't care, and that's fine. That's your prerogative. Some of us do. Am I offended by Kirk? No, why would I be? He's allowed to do whatever he wants, no matter how ridiculously asinine. I am however annoyed. There's a distinct difference. I think he's a pretentious douche bag and quite honestly, so is the entire band. They aren't relevant anymore. Who even listens to Metallica anymore? Seriously. They are one of the biggest sell out groups of all time. Next to U2 of course.

Despite that, I respect what they've done as a band. Sure. I listen to their older stuff, it's good. That doesn't mean I am ok with Kirk or anyone for that matter acting like they are re-inventing the wheel. He's not. He's making a Tube Screamer for god's sake. A tube screamer!!! lol. Way to be innovative buddy!

Anyway, like I said, haters gonna hate. That's what I'm doing obviously. But I do have a reason and it's not being offended or butthurt. It's because I'm tired of seeing the industry overrun by dummies. It would be nice if someone with his level of status came out with something truly awesome. Use that fame to create something amazing. Not a tube screamer clone you lame duck.

Here are my long winded thoughts:

1. This may have very well just been a statement he was told to make by some advertising dork. It sounds like the sort of pablum that would work on GC kids in the 90s.
2. I first saw Ryan's response on the Facebook page for Fuzzrocious. I initially thought it was pretty bold for a company the size of his to take a shot at someone like Kirk Hammett; in other times it would have been suicide. But then I saw the flood of reactions from a dozen pedal makers and realized Kirk really touched a nerve. I guess it would be like a guitar player taking up the bass, getting a custom signature model, and then saying "finally someone made a real bass for a real bass player." Bass players would get super pissed. In our new economy, small companies working outside the norms to sell directly to people is becoming very common. People are turning their passions into businesses, so it is no surprise that a vast number of respected boutique pedal makers a.) exist; b.) are popular; and c.) are made by guys that are musicians themselves. They may not sell as many pedals as Boss or records as Metallica, but some might say they are better on both fronts.
3. What's with all the sudden Metallica hate? If you want to say they are riding the lightning of their first 4-5 albums (see what I did there ) you can make that argument. But going after their personalities or their money is a little childish. Unless members of a band say something like super racist, I can easily separate the man from the music. If someone is as cool as their music, great, but I've been on this Earth long enough to know to not count on that. I also know that even the biggest metal bands are living on thin profits these days. Do those guys make more money than me? You bet. Are they making Taylor Swift, Katey Perry, Justin Bieber money? Hell no! Why do you think Metallica keeps trying new stuff or has suddenly started showing up on TV shows or events? Because their sales revenue stream is starting to dry up like everyone else's is.
4. People like to bash Lars, and sometimes he does come off as a loud mouth, but for as much $#!& people give him for being a party pooper over Napster, it sure looks like he called that one the right way, doesn't it? Any of you guys trying to make new music out there knows what piracy and streaming have done to the music scene. Being a career musician no longer pays. You can bust your backside for a lower-middle class wage and that's it; there is NO pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Lars may have been protecting his own money at the time, but he was sure as hell right about what the proliferation of digital music would mean.
5. Kirk has been working with KHDK for a while now; this isn't really news. Were any of us waiting for this pedal? I don't think so. Keep Calm, Carry On.

I think you guys that are jumping in here to defend this idiot are just as "butt hurt"(I hate that expression) as anyone else in this thread. Sorry if some people think your idol is jackass that hasn't made decent music since the early 90's. The thing that bothers me most about this is that this guy is involved in and industry he clearly knows very little about. This is more about calling someone out for talking out of their ass than it is about hurt feelings. Seems like the people telling others to stop being offended are just as offended as the so-called offended people.
