I'll bet Satch wishes no one knew this!! His (alleged) solos kept me from being able to even listen to Metallica and I sincerely mean that!
Great publicity stunt. In no time people will be in lineups to buy those pedals.
I'm surprised so many builders replied. Best thing was to never reply and it would have been forgotten 10 minutes after.

The other way to look at it is that they also got free publicity. There may have actually been someone somewhere besides Kirk who thought pedal makers were just non-musicians slapping pots together with wires with no regard for what they sound like. Now they perhaps know otherwise. Maybe this rising tide of Twitter-trolling has lifted all pedal-boats.
If it wasn't for that tweet and the pedal industry's response I would probably never even know the Kirk had his name on this particular pedal.

I'm currently working on caring about this. Don Henley mutters comments more arrogant than this in his sleep. Better yet listen to some Glenn Fry quotes if you want to hear arrogance. Jeff Berlin talking about Vic Wooten and his school, that's actual arrogance. This is a guy who spent his formative years as a musician getting women and money faster than he could think. It's the naive arrogance of a guy who's been so sheltered than he can't find a taco stand without a roadie. Yes he's wrong. I think the sun will come up tomorrow.
Seems to me that most pedals are built by drama queens.
Toyota and VW have had periods in the past few years where everyone was talking about them too, and people's awareness of their products were sky-high. Problem is, it wasn't good stuff people were saying about them. So no, not all publicity is good publicity. Do you think BP is thinking of purposefully engineering another month-long oil spill just to get people talking about BP again?
His company makes a Tube Screamer clone, an overdrive and a boost. Who shaging cares?
When Is Bad Publicity Good?
The tl;dr version: If you are already well known, as in the case of Kirk, bad publicity generally has a negative effect. If you are obscure, unknown, and fighting just for name recognition, bad publicity can have a positive effect on that front.
Kirk's pedal company is new, but Kirk himself, as a brand and household name among guitarists, is certainly not. I'm pretty certain that is what his partners were banking on by partnering with him. Kirk Hammett does not need to be audacious and controversial to get ads put in GW and other places where he could get recognition. Those places will fall over themselves to give him full-page spreads and take his Metallica-dollars.

He could be making yogurt or boondoggles, and the discussion would still spiral into: "Metallica are posers", "his solos suck", & and the old standby "everything after Cliff was garbage".
Remember guys, taking offence or feeling offended is something you do to yourself. It is equally easy to ignore this person, whatshisname, and save yourselves the grief. It is much more fun pondering your most recent GAS attack.

My latest gas attack was ham and beans. Which is weird because I used to be able to eat a five gallon bucket of it with no ill effects. I hate being 40.
