I've been trying to scrap together any pennies I can find to buy a '72 Telecaster Bass. I'm about to throw down 3 grand on an upright bass, so this will probably have to wait a long time. Link Removed

USA Lakland 44-64 (Bob Glaub), maple board, any finish over alder body. Also, gassing to get my 2 builds finished: a 70s Fender J Bass Tribute, and a 60s Fender J Bass tribute fretless w/matching headstock, probably CAR finish (trying to use all Fender parts).

I'm definitely feeling more of a DIY mood lately. So, I'm considering finally taking the plunge and getting that Swamp Ash Warmoth "72 P-bass" body I've always wanted.

I'm considering a black pickguard, Yellow-Black Sunburst, and one of those 2-TEK bridges. I'd go for a side jack, and try to drill holes for the volume and tone controls with the same spacing as the '51 and '54 P-basses. For a neck, I'd go with a tinted All-Maple specimen, to keep the overall look pretty reminiscent of the 1950's (except for the fancy, modern hardware, of course). I'm considering a "Classic '58" from The Creamery, in Manchester, UK for the pickup.

Of course, I could also indulge my inner metalhead and go for a new 5-string...

Same. Or a band where the members are into the same music as I am. Like Rush. Its one thing to play along to Limelight or zred Barchetta but its another to play those songs with other people and without background music to aid you if you screw up.

Yeah I GAS for a Rick. Almost bought one once, but Rick decided they didn't know how to make 5 string basses and cancelled the order.

That's my GAS problem. Now I'm GASSing for things that don't exist:

5 or 6 string Rick.

G&L L2600

G&L LM2500

Carvin AC60 (with added magnetic neck pickup to mix in)

Stingray 6er

Single coil basses that don't hum.

6 string bass that switches between fretted and fretless with a lever (note local Luthier builds this in 4 string but I can't get him to do a 5 or a 6 string (6 string would be optimum for this!)

New Modulus basses

And on and on!

My GAS is basically gone, though I still don't have a 5er in the arsenal. I think that will be a custom build/Frankenstein, made to look like either a Jazz bass Special, or an Aerodyne. Maybe both ;)

I guess I would like to upgrade to a nicely powered D class amp, 500W ish, but will be selling off some basses to fund that in the coming months. Then I basically need nothing I don't have aside from a pedal or two.

I have absolutely no right to GAS for anything. But I do. And this thread reminds me that I'm not alone. Thank you for that. LOL. Through the years our finances have been way up...and way down. Currently in a down period. If that ever changes I would like to purchase a state-of-the-art bass cabinet and another fretted 5-string. That's not asking too much, is it?

want a comfy 6 stringer ... tired of having 4-5 string basses in various string configurations and tunings ...

maybe just one 4 string ( w/flats ) ... and a 6 er for all else ... !!??

for the money , the Ibanez SR1806 looks like a possible fit .. ??!!? or maybe one of those newer short scale crossover basses from Ibanez .. ?? really like the parts in the 1800 series ...

I had been wanting a different cab for some time. Spent many weeks researching. Finally decided that I wanted a Bergantino AE 410.
Then I spend a few weeks in search of one that was in perfect condition. Found one that had never really been used and was advertised to be just like new.
Drove 300 mile round trip yesterday to pick it up and was not disappointed. It was exactly as described by the seller (another Talk Bass Brother).
Have played through it using a GK MB800 with a Tecch21 Sans Amp for about three hours at this point and from the moment I played the first note it was like going to sonic heaven. Absolutely wonderful. Pretty close to unbelievable. Warm, responsive, musical, articulate, balanced in all the right ways. What can I say... all manor of goodness! How did I go this long without discovering what a lot of you have been talking about for years?
Gas problem solved.

Would have sucked if you drove all that way and hated the cab!:woot:

The Berg AEs are my favourite cabs of all time. I don't bother with cabs other than my 2 AE210s anymore. They are light, well built and sound killer for just about any kind of music and they play nice with almost every head I have paired with it.
