Good Omens is one of my favorite books. It was the launch-point for me to get into the rest of Pratchett and Gaiman's catalogue.

Good Omens is an absolute riot to read.

I'm about 1/3 of the way through this collection of Roald Dahl short stories. You may know him from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but he wrote adult stuff too. This collection includes "Man From The South" The story that the last segment of the movie Four Rooms was based on.

Away to read "Ilario: The Lion's Eye" by Mary Gentle. Im a big fan of her writing, "Ash" was a great book!

Raymond Roussel: Life, Death and Works. This is an anthology by @las Press delving into the times of the strangest writer ever. RR was a millionaire dilettante and drug addict who invented an unparalleled system of verbal association that reads like the subconscious mind (and like a translator's nightmare). The president of the Republic of Dreams, indeed.

Re-reading Good News from Outer Space by John Kessel. A fine, dystopian sci-fi novel about future media, millennial evangelism and cultish behavior. Not far removed from today, and it came out only 15 years ago.

Also just re-read: Dragon's Egg and Starquake by Robert L. Forward. These are quality, traditional science fiction, dealing with natural laws, evolution and problem-solving. The style of writing is merely perfunctory, and there's no real development of characters, since the panorama of mind-bending ideas is what's important. Different scales of gravity and time are at issue.

"I Hate Myself And Want To Die : the 52 most depressing songs you've ever heard" by Tom Reynolds

This is the funniest thing I've seen in months. He basically just reviews 52 recordings of depressing songs. Each time there is an intro section, then a description of the song, then an explanation why it's so depressing. Doesn't sound like much, does it? So then why are my sides actually sore from laughing?

One section is about songs that were okay...until someone covered them that shouldn't have. Some of those were depressing to begin with, but not THIS depressing. For example Harry Nilsson's 'Without You' is a beautiful, albeit downer song. But when Mariah Carey decided to remake it, it turned into a great reason to slash your wrists. "It's a heartbreaking composition, especially when you consider how its composers both left this life bankrupt and humiliated. (Pete Ham and Tom Evans, of Badfinger, each comitted suicide by hanging themselves several years apart.)All this is lost on Mariah, who basically uses the song for skeet shooting. While the Nilsson version has him holding the pitch of each note like a taut wire, Mariah employs her faux-gospel technique of toying with the melody like she'e dangling a string in front of a cat."

Okay, it's not as funny when I write it.

How about the desription of having to see, at this point anyone perform 'Send In The Clowns'? "After a modulation into the bridge, she slithers off of the piano to attack the song's thespian references with zombie relish. 'Making my entrance again with my usual flaaaair'. she bellows, flailing her arms like Helen Keller fighting off an anaconda, but, alas 'no one is there.'

How about the unbridled vitriol he has for Carol Bayer Sager?

Somebody read this. It's funny.

And now I have the sequel: "Touch Me, I'm Sick: the 52 creepiest love songs you've ever heard"

It's still pretty damn hilarious. My favorite things are some of the chapter titles, like: 'Love Is Just Another Word For I Want To Eat Your Liver' and 'I'm Not Bitter, But Why Won't You Just Die, You Pig' and 'Those Freaking Butterfly Songs'.

Check this guy out. You won't regret it.

I'm a big fan of Roald Dahl. My favorite is the dude that plays poker for fingers. Is that a golf club he's holding on the cover there? Makes me like him even more.
