what are your favorite pickups

I really dig Seymour Duncan PUPS. I am pretty much running them exclusively now except for on my vintage gear. Seymour Duncan lateral humbucking jazz pups (custom Fodera specs) are in two of my basses. These look like single coils and are beautifully bright for humbuckers. I also have Seymour Duncan dual coils in one of my basses (again, Fodera custom specs). These are a touch darker sounding and warmer when in humbucking (dual-coil) mode than the lateral humbuckers. The upside is that they can be taken out of humbucking mode and run as single coils. Hope this helps...

I like the low punch and clean harmonics I get out of them. Plus they are fairly high output, fairly cheap and humbuckers. Best of all they are passive.

The closest to Lane Poors are the Villex pickups IME (and I've tried more than I care to reveal)

You know, I've heard that but I have yet to play a bass with a set of those in it. I heard they're nice and hot with a lot of punch.

Villex pickups have good (hot) output, but they don't sound compressed or muted. They have big fundamental, great mids (punch) and nice highs. LP's have lower output (useful though) and they don't sound so "open" in the high mids and highs as the Villex ones (but they are very nice too)

Interesting..... which LPs have you tried? I've found the LP wide aperture model to have pleasing high-midrange and high frequency response, though not quite as extended as a Q-Tuner. As I recall, even the LP HB had surprisingly present highs as well, but was a bit dominated by the lower midrange for my taste. Haven't heard the LP narrow aperture.
