What beer are you drinking (or rating) II: second bottle

Ive not been a fan of Newcastle for a while. It was probably the first "good beer" I started drinking and I wore myself out on it long ago. I'll drink it if its the only beer better than the swill. THEN, a few months ago, they released the Werewolf Ale. Anyone try that? It was like Newcastle, with a bit of a fruity taste, but was quite good. I saw the Winter IPA at the store the other day, but I went with something else. Im glad to see Newcastle expand and make some seasonal brews.

In the last month Ive had some REALLY good beers, all on tap, but the best I had was last night. A collaboration between Stone and 2 other Breweries. Cherry Chocolate Stout. BOMB stuff that is. So rich and delicious! Last week I had another Stone collab, some sort of Pumpkin Ale, which is the best pumpkin Ale Ive ever had. If its not obvious, I can be a bit of a Stone fanboy, but to me, they always tend to live up to my expectations.

Had some Dogfish Head Midas Touch (Yum!) as well as Firestone's Velvet Merlin Oatmeal stout.

I've had some good ones lately too. Recently I've had:

Lagunitas Imperial Stout
Great Divide Yeti
Doppel-birsch Doppelbock

The Lagunitas was very good IMO, reminiscent of Ten Fidy but not quite as awesome. Yeti, well, what can I say that hasn't already been said? As far as that Doppel-birsch, it says it is brewed by "Der Hersch Brau", Sonthofen, Germany. I picked it up on a lark during my last Atlanta beer run. It is what I would call a "traditional" doppelbock in that it reminds me of some I had when I visited Germany. It was good and malty like a doppelbock should be and I wish I had more.

Tonight I may hit the Hooker Imperial Porter. :cool:

Similar. Newcastle (in the 20oz pint bottle) was my regular beer all the way through college. I used to DJ parties in exchange for a crate of the stuff :) But I hardly touch it now, except when I go visit my parents who live 30 miles from the brewery.

It didn't do it for me, though I agree that it's nice to see them taking risks and mixing it up a bit.

Very tasty. A little less of the bizarre yeast flavours you get with some Belgians and a touch sweeter than I usually like, but very nice indeed. And 10.5% alcohol.

Sierra Nevada and many West coast pale ales and IPAs typically utilize cascade hops, which have a characteristic citrus finish. O'Dell has an IPA that has a bit of a grapefruit finish, which I really like. English style pale ales and IPAs typically have a more balanced overall vibe. When other hops are used, IPAs tend to get a bit of a piney flavor.
