About to sit down to watch some hockey and enjoy a local brew one of my new New Hampshire friends dropped off for me to sample. Looks good.....

Well, he's 27, so what it took was having brews to trade with others who had serious discipline.
Beer trading is the best.
I'm back at my parents' place for the festive season so have had a couple of pints of my dad's homebrewed bitter. nice mellow hoppy stuff 
I'd be interested in hearing the results of such a large vertical testing. I've only tried the occasional yearly offering. Not quite my favorite barley wine, but still good. Come to think of it, most of my barley wines are about a year old.
My homebrew old ales are about 2.5 years old, I think. I really regret drinking those before they truly hit their prime. I hope to make some more this winter and not touch them for 2-3 years.

They have that on tap at my local "Irish Pub" (MCouls Public House - Great Atmosphere Food Fun Spirits - Greensboro, NC), and it's quite good, hope you enjoyed it.
I had it with lunch the other day...
Wow. No way! None of the local joints that I've been to have it here. I have to go to a co-op grocery store to find it about 20 miles away.

I've been keeping a steady supply of Spaten's Optimator & Dunkel as well as Newcastle's Brown Ale in the fridge. I like them and no one has complained... other than a TBer that lives on teh opposite coast who thinks I need to buy Guinness instead

Has anyone tried any Hook and Ladder? I bought a six pack of their Backdraft Brown and was very satisfied. I've also recently have a really good doppelbock called Spaten Optimator.
my current favorite... I drank my last one last night, my local shop was out this week so I grabbed their Dunkel instead. I don't like it as much, but it has it's own charms. If they don't have it in when I go back next week, I'll have to try a different store.
I like the presentation..nice..
This holiday it will be Fullers ESB(of course),Dale's Pale Ale, maybe some Left Hand 400 Pound Monkey IPA(both favorite finds of mine this year). Wish I could have saved my growler of Three Floyds Zombie Dust but that is long gone...
for the wife, Bells Winter White and Kasteel in a proper fluted glass...
Lots of good beers this year...great to be alive.

Any of you west coasters drinking some Pliny the Elder? We Can't get that here in Illinois but I WANT...to get some Russian River stuff would be awesome....
My local shop had a number of micros and high-quality macros (e.g., Sam Adams) available to create your own sample packs with, so I grabbed the Spaten. I'm definitely grabbing a six pack of it the next time I go back.
The Sam Adams Winter Lager sounds controversial. I actually have a bottle sitting in my fridge, so I'll come back with my thoughts once I drink it.
I also forgot to mention that I'm turning my girlfriend onto some better beer. She was primarily a Bud Light drinker (uggg!). Recently, I taken her to a restaurant with its own microbrewery and hipped her to its amber. This past week, we were at a place that was running pitcher specials. I had her try some Magic Hat #9 and she really liked it. There is hope out there for Bud drinkers.
