What beer are you drinking (or rating) II: second bottle

Man, this thread is killing me! I've had a lot of joint pain lately, and one finger deformed, due to gout it seems. So no beer for me this xmas. Have the fridge stocked with these

, plus some Sam Adams and Hoegarden and I'm restricted to water!

I just finished off one of these a moment ago:

Brilliant beer, got 5 more in the fridge, they'll get slowly enjoyed over the next few months/year. :)

I also forgot to mention that I'm turning my girlfriend onto some better beer. She was primarily a Bud Light drinker (uggg!). Recently, I taken her to a restaurant with its own microbrewery and hipped her to its amber. This past week, we were at a place that was running pitcher specials. I had her try some Magic Hat #9 and she really liked it. There is hope out there for Bud drinkers. :D

I may have told you this story when you visited, but I'll share with the rest of the class. ;)

When I met the missus, her idea of "beer" was a far cry from my own. Her father had worked at the Stroh's brewery in Winston-Salem, NC, and that had...let's say...colored...her understanding of the art that is beer, and the joy of consuming the better examples of this art. :)

So, early on in our relationship, I hosted a Super Bowl party/TB GTG here at the house, which was well attended by several of our resident beer snobs (hey Ray! :hyper: ). One attendee, a good guy despite the following story, arrived bearing a crock pot of a wonderful chili...and sadly, a 12er of Bud Light. We will attempt to overlook this heinous act, as best we can....however, as he was the only one in attendance that actually consumed said....well...beer isn't quite the correct word....cold bubbly horse pee...yes, that's it...I apologize for my digression...where was I??? Oh yes...

...he was unable to consume all 12 of these...things. So, residing in my fridge afterward were several bottles of this...stuff...which I would steadfastly refuse to even open, much less consume. My wonderful lady, knowing no better, volunteered to "throw herself on the Bud Light grenade", and finished off these.

Fast forward about 18 months, we are now married, and she has been living with me for almost a year...the same individual came to visit for a weekend, to share a booth at a local guitar show...he again purchased a 12er of his usual Bud Light, and placed it in my fridge for the evenings after the guitar show's winding down libations. He did not manage to eliminate all of the bottles from my fridge, and again left them behind, about 4-5 of them.

So, knowing that I would never stoop to the level required to consume this dreck, my lovely bride yet again volunteered to "throw herself on the BL grenade"...

...small problem.

In the intervening months, she had become educated in the ways of the art of the brew, and had begun to develop a palate that knew the good and the bad....and in this case, the horrifically criminal.

She opened a BL.

She took a sip.

She walked to the kitchen sink, and poured the contents of the bottle in the sink.

She walked back to the fridge, removed the remaining bottles, opened these, and emptied them into the sink as well, then rinsed the bottles and placed them in the recycling bin.

:)

My wife is a wonderful, beautiful, and wise woman. Why she is married to me is a mystery, but I am thankful that she is.

:)

Not really a "rating" but I just want to complain about the beer selection at the hockey game. Beers were $9 for a single and $10 for a "premium."

Bud Light was $4 for a single as a "thirsty Thursday" deal.

Premium beers were Mic Ultra and Yuengling. I'd hardly call either of those premium.

I have some Hop Rod Rye from Bear Republic waiting for me, will crank one up as soon as the clock shows 12.00 :) these beers are a rocket loaded with tons of hops, one of the best American beers IMHO.

I thought you might appreciate that little tale...

...here's a joke to go with it:

How is drinking any Bud product like having sex in a canoe?

It's #$%&ing close to water!

(...and typically doesn't taste nearly as good...)

:)

*lol*

On that note, I can at least get Bud Light to go down. Regular Budwieser: Forget it. A few years ago, someone gave me a bottle of that on a gig, and I couldn't finish it. Not that I normally drink on gigs anyways, but I only got about 1/4 of it drank and said, "No way!"
