Cold as hell. Drinking some of my smoked porter. It's like sitting in front of a fireplace with a beer.
Big fan. We had it side by side with Hop Rod Rye, the sort of old guard of hoppy ryes, and Ruthless was a cut above.
I've heard a lot of breweries in the US are making beers with rye, what effect does it have on the flavour?
Hop Rod Rye is great but it looks gross, there's tons of sediment...today I am having fajitas with a negra modelo:
Yeah, Hop Rod never impressed me either. Everything else Bear Republic does is A+ so I was more than a little disappointed. A lot of folks like it, though.
I was pretty impressed by the Ruthless.
It adds a little "spiciness" - just a touch is nice to make the flavour more interesting.
Rye beers seem to be the next big/new thing. Drank a regionally made strong Belgian dark rye last night. Tasty.
Yeah, Rye does seem to be a new emerging trend. Its often paired with pretty hoppy ales, Ive seen. The lesser hopped rye ales are pretty good, IMO.
I had a Lagunitas Cappucino Stout yesterday. Pretty good, especially for finding it at 7-11.
Yup. I predict that spelt (a type of ancient grain) will be the next one. Already had a few of those.
I've only seen a few. I'd guess if the rye thing really catches on, it will surely follow.
Poured the first bottle of our first batch today. Needs another week or two conditioning, but we were anxious. The good news is, it tastes like beer. The bad news, we can't drink two cases of a pretty boring amber ale. We'll give away many bottles.
Next brew, we're doing a Two-Hearted Clone. I can drink two cases of that, no problem.

Tried Twisted Pine's Ghost Face Killah last week. I've had pepper beers before, but this was a little too over the top. Gave up after about 1/4th of a pint. Good thing I only had one and it was given to me for free.
Been enjoying O'Dell's Myrcenary double IPA, especially with a nice aged sharp cheddar.
Over the weekend, I had some of my sweet stout made in the fall.

Dogfish Head Chickory Stout - Delicious
Kona Coffee Porter (Xmas release) - Way better than I expected
Sam Adams Wee Heavy (Imperial Series) - Pretty heavy 10%ABV, tasted more like a Barleywine
Hangar 24 Alt-Bier - Pretty nice, kind of similar to Karl Strauss' Red Trolley
The other 2 escape me at the moment, as they were the ladies choices
750 of Firestone Walker Private Reserve Series Porter - Killer brew!

Whipped out a Smuttynose Imperial Stout for tonight. I've had this one cellared for about 5 months and it seems to taste more "integrated" than the one I had 5 months ago. It has aged very well; impressive indeed. For tomorrow I have an Allagash black Belgian stout slated. I also picked up an Arrogant Bastard that I plan to cellar for a few months. Skol!
Not bad by itself, but definitely something I'd only have when eating Mexican food. Tonight was with jalapeno carnitas.
