My favorite Trappist ale:

SO FREAKING HOPPY, but good, none the less. The 1L bottle was a bit much, I must say, though, for me. For you hop heads, it's perfect though. 7.7% ABV.

I like pretty much all Stone brews, (see my avatar! thats up on the wall at the Stone brewery which i visited a few weeks ago) and yes, the Ruination IPA is quite hoppy. Their regular IPA is much more suitable to my tastes.

When I was at the brewery I tried 2 new Stone brews. One, the Sublimely Self Righteous Ale, is served 8oz. at a time. Its a black ale spawned from the 11th anniversary ale, very good!

The other is called a Cali-Belgique. A fancy way of saying Californian brewed Belgian style ale. It tasted like Delerium Tremens to me. It was so good I paid $27 to take a growler (2L) of it with me!

I love Belgian style ales. I'll have to hit it up when I get back out to Cali.

I really want to try their regular IPA. I'm not traditionally an IPA guy (my drummer who doesn't drink bought it for me at the liquor store he works at) , but it wasn't bad, just intense. It could really REALLY ruin a meal.

Definitely go, the tour is free, about 45 min. long, and they serve you 4 double shots of different beers: Pale Ale, IPA, Smoked Porter, and Stone Ale.

Their regulr IPA is good, about as hoppy as a Sierra Nevada, only with a little more floral taste. Its much more mellow compared to the Ruination.

Here we go!

Speckled Hen - Honestly, I don't care for it. It's got a strong coffee (toffee) flavor to it, and it tastes burnt in a bad way. Not for me.
Bass - Wow. This beer is light, but it still has a good flavor. I'd definitely buy again.
Wacko #9 - Interesting brew. Like all #9's you have to try it for yourself. I liked it, but other might not.
Estrella Gaillica - Not bad. A lighter beer, yet somewhat bubbly. I'd buy again.
New Castle (bottle) - No where near as good as tap. It tastes heavier and has a nuttier flavor to it. Not bad, but it's not tap.
Double Bastard - My God this beer was heavy, but I loved it! It's not for the faint of heart, but it's tasty and worth the high price if you like strong ales. 10/10.
Papbt's Blue Ribbon - I know, I know. It's cheap, but honestly it's better than Bud, Miller, or Coors. Worth a buy if you're on a budget.

The next few weeks are going to be nothing but cheap lager of the local variety...

But of late I have enjoyed Hoegaarden (the greatest of all beers), Guinness (a close second) and Spitfire (which I mainly drink because of the adverts and the roundel bottle tops...). All great beers, which I'll be seeing very little of in the weeks to come :(
