What brand is this bass?

The dot inlays on the neck are identical to those on my Cort A5 Artisan. Dots close to the top of the finger board, double dots at the 12th fret close together. That says Cort to me. Headstock is different, looks like might have been reshaped by a previous owner? Could be why it was repainted but that's just a WAG on my part. If Cort built it it's probably a pretty decent instrument.

I've seen Cort guitars from the 90s that looked near identical to ibanez, I suspect that's the case with this bass. If it is made by Cort at that time Korea is a good bet for where. Chances are they made the actual ibanez in the same factory

It's getting harder (and increasingly pointless) to "identify" these similarly-styled instruments, since so many are now turned out by large, anonymous Asian factories, with whatever brand names on them - or none. They are generally quite usable, even if inexpensive. Once in a while a certain manufacturer will gain a reputation for appreciably good quality, like Peerless and Mirr in Korea, but in most cases it's not like there's necessarily any meaningful pedigree.

Don't know who made it, but it looks at least serviceable.
If I remember correctly, the Select series were the cheap EMGs.
Still, they are EMGs.
From what I can see from here ( ) it looks like it would have passed Fender's QC at several points in their history.
I expect if it can be set up well it would have a shot at doing a Jazz bass imitation.

I’m in the camp of it’s probably an Asian mass produced instrument that was sold under a variety of different brands. It’s probably a well made,darn good instrument and it’s pedigree is irrelevant.

Nice find! While the headstock and hardware look slightly different, the purple Austin on reverb is really really close to my Alvarez, right down to the (definitely totally 100% legit) purple flame.

On further inspection, the brand Austin is/was a subsidiary of St. Louis Music - same parent company as Alvarez and many other instruments that were made in the same Korean factory.

Edit: one difference is that the pickups on the Austin have one screw in each corner for a total of 4, where my bass has pickups with 2 screws that look more like EMG soapbars.

That's not true, I had exactly that happen. An attractive lady, who's also a bassist, came out to see the cover band I play in and I just got my SBMM Ray35. On set break she asked what kind of bass it was and I proudly explained that it's a Korean made Sterling... cause I don't care... cause it sounds awesome
