What causes people to get divorced?

"Breeding program" screws it up for a lot of couples. They forget about themselves as couple and transform into a 24/7 support team. Kids need 8-9 hours of sleep a day. The math should not be as daunting as some apparently make it.

My ex and I got divorced after 10 years of marriage. (We knew each other for about 3 years before getting married.) To be fair we both had our issues....some "emotional baggage" was alive and well within both of us and had that been realized and dealt with beforehand I think there's a chance we could have made it.

I could go on and on about what happened but I'd rather not. We got divorced in '93, she remarried about a year later and we all get along very well.

The important part is "all get along very well."

One reason (that may manifest in many different ways): Expectation doesn't match reality.

Expectation: You're not a coke head. Reality: You're a coke head.
Expectation: You're responsible with money. Reality: Your irresponsible
Expectation: You won't sleep around. Reality: You do.
Expectation: You'll help clean up. Reality: Football is on.
Expectation: You'll fill up the ice cube trays when you empty them. Reality: 6 trays with 2 cube each.
