What color?! < Carvin >

Wow, a lot of votes coming in for Tigerseye and Tealburst. Sunset burst just isn't that popular around here. I think I'm leaning more towards Tigerseye at the moment. I already have a blue bass and I feel like I should switch it up a bit.

Those links don't work =[

Arrrghhh. I'm on a computer at the moment that is surf-controlled from 90% of the internet so I can't even check!

Google 'Carvin Gallery'. You'll see a bunch of options for colors and fretboards and whatnot from existing basses. The search function is far from perfect, so ask it too search for only 1 thing.

Select the finish you want, then click on search or find or whatever it is. Then just scroll down. If you do Tigerseye AND Maple, it will come up blank, so just search for the finish...That where those links led.

Well after looking through this gallery it seems that the picture of tigerseye that I have posted here is an outlier. Most of them are a lot lighter. I like the tigerseye when it's dark not so much when it's lighter. The deep sunset burst is more consistently a color that I would want and is very beautiful. Again, the teal looks amazing but I'm not sure if I want to go that route at this point.

The hard part for me is envisioning these finishes with a maple fingerboard. While I think they'll still look great, I personally think they look better with a darker board.

With an ebony board I'd rock any of them. With the maple board I think you'd want the darker colors.

What about Tiger's Eye with Sunsetburst edges?

I had a Carvin (without a flamed top mind you) that was umber stain with sunsetburst edging and I always got compliments on that one.

Not one of your options, but I think with the maple board I'd go with a deep red flame finish. Too bad Carvin doesn't do black blocks on maple or it could end up looking like a slightly more upscale version of this bass:

Flamed purple would be one I'd consider too.

But again, you can't go wrong with the finishes you're looking at.

You can always call Carvin and ask them if they'll do a darker Tiger's Eye for you. All three basses I've ordered from them had some specific info on how I wanted the finish and they were always willing to try and accommodate my requests, within reason.

Unfortunately the photography at Carvin could use a round of color correction/balancing. Sometimes you'll see a 'Classic White' bass that looks white white. So the colors in the photos seem to vary a bit. Of course, a lot of it depends on the wood it's going over...

Hmmmmm... I'm really digging the sunset burst and the darker Tigers eye. I don't know why I'm so set on a maple board. Probably because I've had a lot of rosewood/ebony lately and wanted to get back on the maple train. Plus, the birdseye option is pretty sweet. It sucks because I'm thinking a darker board might look better with these finishes as well. Any thoughts?

Yes. Get what you want. If you want a maple, which it seems like you do, then find a finish that looks good with maple. IMHO, Orangeburst/Deep Orangeburst looks amazing w/maple...
