What did you do with your first bass?

Still have mine 25 years later. Just had it adjusted and tuned up by a local luthier and it plays better than ever! Can't beat Japanese craftsmanship. Riverhead is a defunct name, but people familiar with guitars comment when they see it, on how close it looks to a Steinberger headless. I'm glad I kept it all these years. Now I have started fixing up other guitars around me just to see what can be done with old gear. Leave it to an old-timer...
+1^^ That was 25 years ago. It was a Japanese made "Winston". Very good bass for the money.
I sold it to a distant cousin around '93, he still has it and I've offer to buying it back several times, but he doesn't want to sell it.
It was a used but very decent 80's P bass copy my dad and gramma bought for me in the late 80's.
I installed an EMG Select pickup, defretted it, and converted it to a 5-string with a Wilkinson bridge. I pretty much instantly regretted modding it.
For sentimental reasons I'd like it back, but I'd have to restore it back to a 4 string.

My first bass, technically, was a Peavey P bass copy... But I tend not to count that because I started with guitar and bought that bass just so I could learn how to slap... Once I learned I sold it a couple months later and continued with guitar.
My first "real" bass was a Carvin LB76... It was the first one I ever bought (ordered new) after I officially made the switch to bass... Cool story actually... I played that bass for 7 years then sold it to a guy in TX back in 2007... Then, late last year I found it for sale here on TB! It made it's way to Chicago at this point. I bought it back for sentimental value, but then sold it again a couple months later out of practicality... It's now with a new owner back where it was born in San Diego, CA.

actually, I just remembered, that my first bass, was a really cheep chip board, short scale bass my mum got me from her catalogue, it lasted for a total two and a half hours, before it broke! we replaced it with the precision which we got cheep from a porn shop on the way back from returning the first one!

My first three basses I gave back to their rightful owners; they'd generously lent them to me for several months at a time while I was learning to play. The first bass that I actually bought and owned I later sold to a complete stranger in the local want-ads.

Then gave the ugly thing to my stepbrother and bought a fender guitar (white Duosonic i think) played guitar forever, then got a Carlo robalini bass to tool around on (it burned up in a pawn shop) at the time I was playing a B.C. Rich acrylic worlock, snapped the head off of it and then just gave up on music alltogether!!

oops, that was a typo (pawn shop)... or perhaps a freudian slip, it is a very phallic instrument after all... ??
+1. Mine was a Johnson precision. I haven't seen it in about four years, but I remember it playing fairly well for its price.
Early 60's Klira - sold it to my cousin with my '63 Blonde Fender Bassman. I was supposed to get first right-of-refusal if he ever wanted to sell... oh well, BOTH are gone-gone-long gone.

i still have my yamaha 170 and think its a solid bass. i still play it frequently as it usually stays hooked to my practice bass.
Used it as a trade in toward a different one. This was back before the internet. And no such thing as Giitar center etc. Lol. So getting nice trade in value wasnt hard. not as much as youd get for selling to a individual, but still not shabby.
