What did you learn today?

I learned a new fact today.

I always thought an acronym was any series of letters used as a shortened version of several words using the first letter of each word.

Apparently an acronym is only an acronym if it's pronouncable as a word, like SCUBA, LASER or NASA.

If it's not pronouncable as a word, it's an initialism.

So, FBI, UFO, and AKA are initialisms, because they're verbalized by their initials, not as fubi, oofo, or acka.

What completely new idea or fact (trivial, interesting, mindblowing, world-shattering or otherwise) did you learn today or recently that you didn't know before?

Penn & Teller?

I learned that I'm a card game hipster. I played Hearthstone a lot until the other day, when it became open to the public. All of a sudden I don't feel like playing it anymore.

Yup, I was watching an episode today when I should have been working. I found it interesting enough to post. I have a boring job.

I'm going to finish this sidetrack right now, but I recently read "Every Day Is an Atheist Holiday!" by Penn Jillette. It's a very misleading title, it's not a book on atheism, which I wouldn't mind at all but there you go. Instead it's just a collection of anecdotes and thoughts by a funny guy who's done some strange things. Laugh out loud at certain points. Recommended

at rehearsal today, I learned that drop D is not my cup of tea. Go to play an F and it comes out an Eb... It will surely be the bane of my existence for the next few months until competition season ends. Oh well, life goes on. (long after the thrill of living is gone) :hiding: :D

It takes a while, and then once you're comfortable, switching back to standard makes your brain, and fingers, and ears hurt.

What Did You Learn in School Today?
-The Chad Mitchell Trio

Two and two are four
And four and four are eight
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOP
Two and two are four

What did you learn in school today
Dear little boys of mine
What did you learn in school today
Dear little boys of mine

I learned that Washington never told a lie
I learned that soldiers seldom die
I learned that everybody's free
That's what the teacher said to me
And that's what I learned in school today
That's what I learned in school

What did you learn in school today
Dear little boys of mine
What did you learn in school today
Dear little boys of mine

I learned that policemen are my friends
I learned that justice never ends
I learned that murderers die for their crimes
Even if we make a mistake sometimes
And that's what I learned in school today
That's what I learned in school

What did you learn in school today
Dear little boys of mine
What did you learn in school today
Dear little boys of mine

I learned that wars are not so bad
I learned of the great ones we have had
We fought in Germany and in France
And someday I might get my chance
And that's what I learned in school today
That's what I learned in school

What did you learn in school today
Dear little boys of mine
What did you learn in school today
Dear little boys of mine

I learned that Government must be strong
It's always right and never wrong
Our leaders are the finest men
And so we elect them again and again
And that's what I learned in school today
That's what I learned in school

That's what I learned in school today
That's what I learned in school
Two and two are four
