What did you learn today?

According to Wikipedia, it was in a 1994 issue of Guitar Player. So, this is all according to Wikipedia. I make no assertions as to the veracity of this claim, only that I have read this claim.

An old friend's business/company used that acronym, but not for musical instruments, it was for high-end stereo gear.

Well, I should have been more specific, in that according to the article, he coined the term "Guitar Acquisition Syndrome", whereas the acronym has likely been used for various purposes many times before.
