Warming to this story, this AM — 2021 Western North America heat wave - Wikipedia. Records are being broken in Cali, according to the radio. It's unrelenting, hundreds hammered mercilessly, poor souls. Resources, dwindling.

We're doing the Yule Tide thing, in a cold snap — peculiar to the antipodes :wacky: The radiator's getting a run — cheating like the dickens — and we've been looking at Polar Express (with the blinkers on) :) It's new to me, at least. They should go again with this one, now that CGI would readily permit real acting, etc..

100% agree that they should remake Polar Express. The performance capture technology was too new at the time. The kids' faces, which should have been joyously expressive, looked more like masks with very limited emotion.

My Bride n daughter n I were on the banks of Sydney Harbor, across from the Heads when the Sydney to Hobart race kicked off in 2016.

Many years ago I ran across a smoking cessation study. It looked at the probability of quitting smoking based on a number of methods including acupuncture, nicotine replacement, behavioral/psychological counseling, etc. and looked at many factors around the programs. The best predictor - price paid for the program. Free programs are poorly effective, expensive programs are very effective.

I’m a couple of weeks away from my 70th birthday. I smoked from age 15 to 25 and quit cold turkey. I stayed away for 29 years, then started up again when I moved to Singapore in 2008. Now it’s time to stop again for good.

No programs for me, thanks. I’ve never been a joiner. Like someone’s sig line here: Individualists unite! It’s not gonna happen. That’s why I’m a bass player. I always seek my own way.

But thanks for the advice!

A couple of months ago I mentioned I was tackling this. Success success!

Last night I accomplished a bucket list item. Learning all the different bass parts to Yes’s song Roundabout. Key was the locomotive section that is predominant throughout. That was the main hump. Last night I actually made it through the tune twice without crashing. A bit unsteady, of course. The next step is polishing it.

I’ll never play this in a band,
and I’m not even the strongest pick player, but it’s something I always wanted to knock down for grins. Chris Squire was so good.

Not advice, just an observation. Some are extrinsically motivated, some are not. Clearly your motivations are intrinsic and thus need no 'program'

I understand. You’re coming from a good place. Truth be told I quit every school I ever went to. Including kindergarten.

“Mommy, I don’t want to go back there anymore. They only want us to run around in circles and bang a tambourine.”

We had just moved to a new school district and the previous year I had been in a pre-school where I learned block letters and numbers. I wanted to learn more. Not regress.

I had a similar kindergarten experience. I asked my Mum if other kids were just stupid because they couldn't read, whereas I had learned to read when I was 3.

The last day I went a girl (?!!!) picked up a student chair/desk and threw it at the teacher. The poor woman (who couldn’t have been more than 20 years old) screamed in agony when it hit her foot.

That was public school PS 11 in Woodside, Queens NY. The next year I was enrolled in a Catholic school with Sisters of Charity teaching.

Maybe if you water it, it'll grow into a Porsche. And
