What did I learn today?
When exposing the antagonistic contradictions in people's arguments, rather than solve these issues they would rather abuse you.

What else did I learn today?
That many who believe in the paranormal have a distrust and hatred for science, fail to grasp the significance of scientific analysis and the scientific relevance to reality or what constitutes as real...
They will tell you that Ghosts are real and science is "hogwash"...
What really puts poop in their logic is when you point out that if:
A, Ghosts are real
B, any investigation into what constitutes as real is hogwash,.
then ipso facto A+B scientifically means C: Ghosts are hogwash...
You can't say something is real by dismissing science.
What will REALLY fry your noodle is talking to someone and putting their “scientific facts” under genuine scientific scrutiny.

Oh boy, the vitriol I’ve encountered from such “educated” individuals.

PS. You attract more flies with honey than with vinegar.

I recently learned than I am much happier if I do not engage in those types of discussions with that type of person. I totally enjoy deep discussion about complex issues, but only with people that like to discuss them. I am not interested in taking part in a fight about a topic or taking on the discussion with someone not open to listening and learning. My goal for the rest of my life is to be happy. To make that happen I got some big life changes to do.

Too many people believe that science is a set of facts. Science is a process of discovery by making a guess (hypothesis) and testing the truth of that guess. It is iterative and recycled; that is looking for a little bit more truth each time and going back and rerunning old tests in light of new findings.

Agreed.

You can quickly and easily be labeled "anti-science" if you dare scrutinize something that is considered scientific dogma by people who read an article in National Geographic, or heard a popular scientist say it.

Science is a wonderful thing, but it's important to remember that science is done by humans, and humans - even the most intelligent and well-educated ones - can be wrong. Also, never assume scientists are completely neutral and without bias. Again - they're humans.

Yep there are people who believe in "the science" as a matter of faith. Science is about critical thought and skepticism.

I think that the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy tells us all what we need to know...

"I refuse to prove that I exist," says God, "for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing."

"But," says Man, "the Babel fish is a dead giveaway, isn't it? It could not have evolved by chance. It proves that You exist, and so therefore, by Your own arguments, You don't. QED."

"Oh dear," says God, "I hadn't thought of that," and promptly vanishes in a puff of logic.

"Oh, that was easy," says Man, and for an encore goes on to prove that black is white and gets himself killed on the next zebra crossing.

I once told somebody "Science is not about being perfect the first time around, it is about being less wrong the next time around". They just looked at me funny.
