What do you like more? Rackmount or pedal tuner?

I want to get a nice tuner. Not sure how much I want to spend, not sure what brand, not sure on a lot of things. But since I have never owned a GOOD one, I want to start deciding some of these things.

First things first: Which do you like better and why between rackmount and pedal tuners?

Rackmount. Korg DTR-2000 best tuner I have ever used.

Boss TU-2 is my drug of choice. I like it because its easy to use, no extra wires, or walking back to the amp to mute for tuning. In fact, I can tune during small breaks in songs and no one notices!

If I were going after a rack tuner, it would mos def be a Korg.

Here's something else to chew on. Many times at shows I end up playing on someone elses rig. Since my pedal board goes everywhere with me, I always have a tuner. If I had a rack tuner, I'd be screwed.

I prefer pedal tuner. I use a Boss TU-2 as well. I like that it mutes, it's easy to see - most of the time, and you can tune very quickly. It is accurate enough for live gigs, but I do use something else for when I do bridge set up.

When I had a rack, I did use a Korg for a while, but really, I think the pedal is more convenient for me. Rack tuners mean using something other than you feet.

I like the fact that I am not totally dependent on a tuner. I mean its good to have when you can take it but. Because I cannot take it everywhere I am forced to tune by ear in some circumstances which tbh I think is a good thing.

I used to use a rack-mounted tuner, but I use different rigs for different gigs, so a pedal-tuner works best for me.

I haven't had any complaints about my Boss TU-2, but this one is getting so much love here on TB, that I'd consider it very seriously if I were buying a new pedal-style tuner:

one thing to note on my setup: My mesa amp has a footswitch with tuner mute already! So I'm not sure if that would discourage one from the need of a foot pedal tuner of a rackmount...

Tuning out loud at a show is SO unprofessional. Its also more time consuming, and to me, nothing says "Hey, let's walk away and get a beer" faster than dead air between songs.

Rackmount. It goes everywhere with my amp, and is always hooked up. That's about as convenient as it gets.

For the less important gigs (where I don't bring my amp), I have a less important tuner - an inexpensive little handheld

Done and done.

I guess it depends on what your rig is like. If you have a pedal board already, a pedal tuner would probably be a good idea. If you have a rack rig, then a rack tuner would probably be nice.

I personally use a rack tuner, no need for two cables, patches right into the back of my preamp.

Pedal. I like muting my signal (via pedal) and looking down to see what's what.

I prefer stand-alone tuners, such as the Peterson Stroboflip. They fit in a gig bag easier, and have better viewing angles.

Rackmount. I have a Sabine RT-7100, and I just leave it on Strobe while I'm playing and have a nice little light show going on

Pedal. Smaller and IMO easier to use especially for silent tuning.

Neither: Korg, the $15 version. I tune once before the gig, then forget about it. My basses stay in tune.

Pedal tuner. I had a rackmount tuner for 3 years and just recently traded down for a TU2 and couldn't be happier. I found that when I played an outdoor gig in sunlight that I could not see my tuner at all when it was racked. Pedals you can cast your own shadow on.

I have it in my own mini pedal board I customized to fit my SansAmp and my tuner. Tone in a box I say, tone in a box.

I like to step on something quickly without having to look behind me.

If the rackmounted tuner were in front of me I might reconsider
