What ended your first band...

looking for stories...So my first band broke up (25 years ago) after a cover of Born to BE Wild went really really wrong. Our guitarist/vocalist and drummer - after having way too many beers (rookie mistake) refused and I mean REFUSED to end a cover of Born to Be Wild! The crowd was sorta into it and when we came up on our regular end - the guitarist (who was not a lead) cut into a VERY bad lead and the drummer completely ignored my cue to end the song....on and on and on they went. Our lead singer took a look at me after my third attempt to end the song and walked right off the stage followed shortly after by our lead guitarist. With our drummer (who had a VERY bad meter) obviously caught up in the moment with our other guitarist and refusing to end the tune after 10 minutes – I put my bass down and joined my other bandmates off stage. When they finally finished – our guitarist came up to us with the biggest smile on his face saying how that was the best jam ever and our drummer was so far gone that he completely fell over his drum kit trying to get off stage splashing the drums off the riser and onto the dance floor. We ended the band that night and even walked away from a regular playing gig - okay the place was a dive but at least it was steady.

Well, it will either end with me strangling my rhythm guitarist or drummer/wanna be front man.

I'll probably have some great stories in the next month or so beginning with one of the most insane beginnings to band drama ever!!!

School band in a quiet rural area, 1968.

Singer got his gf pregnant, drummer and guitarist went off to college.

I looked round for something else and was offered a job in a gigging band based in the nearest big town.

The singer (he was pretty good) has never sung since.

The drummer (rock solid timing) sold his kit and has just bought another 39 years after giving up and is back out gigging.

The guitarist (a poor one at that) on his return from college switched to bass where he was only a little better. I played lead with his band in the 80s and 90s but he rage quit one night. He didn't turn up for a gig (and claimed he was thrown out) and I replaced him on bass. He has been trying to get a band or project together on and off since (1996) but no one will tolerate his "I am always right about everything" attitude.

We graduated from middle school and went to different High Schools. Band faded from there. Besides, at the time, I thought I was so much cooler and hipper than "those" guys and needed to move on to bigger and better things. Ah, to be young and naive......

Nothing... yet, we have been together for 5 years

well thats what I consider my first band
I was in a "band" in middle school, we werent (I wasnt very good, everyone else was ok) we played a couple party things, that ended when highschool started.
Jammed acoustic with a few friends, I dont consider that a band either - the people i jammed with turned into my current band.

The middle school band, i was the singer = terrible idea, havent sang since and for good reason

Acoustic stuff i played guitar - so did our drummer - and obviously so did our 2 guitarist
this over the years was a mix of us but never all together

Very differing opinions. Thing is the "band" is still together but I'm no longer a part of it and here's the kicker, I founded the band! :eyebrow:

We we a Christian Rock band and I wanted to play more secular events to get the Word out but the drummer, and other founder, took that as I wanted to play in bars. A heated discussion insued and then before I knew it, I was ousted. Who knows, maybe it'll all settle down soon and they will realize what a horrific mistake they made and ask me to come back. Thing is, after a lot of praying and thinking about it, I probably won't go back if asked. Serves them right. Self righteousness isn't what a Christian band is supposed to be about.

God closed that door only to open up another one for me. Have an audition with a really good red dirt country band tomorrow night. So we'll see. Talk about a genre switch!

Wish me luck. :D
