What ended your first band...

Drummer was/is a prick and refused to not be high during rehearsal. Rhythm guitarist had a prick boss that would allow him days off for gigs, then make him work the day of the gig even though they agreed that he would have the day off.

That guitarist was constantly high, but he was still productive. The drummer was too perplexed by the textured ceiling to do anything but giggle and stare at it.

Drummer is now singer in a band with a few of his smoking buddies, rhythm guitarist is playing acoustic stuff, lead guitarist is getting into the local metal scene, and I am jamming jazz with random people and playing P&W at church.

Waiting until I'm out of college to try getting into a serious gigging band again.

Guitarist had a real bad God complex and left to join a rap metal band who kick him out 2 months later because he refused to write new material. It was for the better though. The rest of us regrouped and started playing under a new name and ended up with a much better reception from the local scene since the douche was no longer with us. That band ended because we eventually drifted apart and moved to different states.

Depends how you mean.

My first pro gig was with a touring gospel group. I thought at first that they hired me for my awesome bass skills. It turns out they hired me for my strong back. The keyboardist had what was then considered a "full touring rig" of: a B3, a Rhodes 88 with a suitacase from a 73 under it, and a Yamaha Electric Grand...all in all about a thousand pounds of keyboard gear to move every show. I quit because of backaches.

My first 'real' band died because we graduated and went to different schools. Drummer went to Stephen F Austin. Keyboardist went to UT. I went in the Navy. Guitarist went to his grandmother's house.

Guitarist's ego. I put new strings on my bass one afternoon, tuned up, stretched them out, tuned up, played some more, tuned up... We got on stage. He told me to tune up. I checked my tuning and it was right on... for some reason he went ballistic. I thought he was going to fight me onstage... All I had to say was "What??"

Got back from the gig and the rest of the band unanimously kicked him out. Unfortunately we couldn't find another guy that could play like him and we fell apart.

It always seems like the best players have the most mental deficiencies.

Lead Singer/founder committed suicide. (The night we were offered a gig to tour a major hotel chain's lounges!) Playing came to a screeching halt. Joined the army, school, family, kids, etc.
Stayed friendly with the lead guitarist but lost touch. Saw him about a year ago and was amazed at how it all came right back, he has stayed in music. That encounter is one of the main reasons, among others, that I've started playing again....
