What ended your first band...

My first band was Drive Theory, an original acoustic-electric pop rock band. We played together for about 12 years and finally broke up in October last year. The vocalist went on to start an original rock band, Happy Time Harry, the bassist (I played drums) focused on his other band, Skinny Cleveland which is doing quite well right now.

I switched to bass from drums and I am now playing with Happy Time Harry. We have our first gig tonight!

My first band broke up because we graduated from college.

My 2nd band (formed 25 years later) broke up because we sucked, and our band leader sucked. I stayed with it too long, but I got a lot of practice in. This was my first band playing bass, so I guess it was an OK trade off.

Guitarist/bandleader started dating the chick singer. Once that starts to happen the days are numbered. We briefly changed the lineup and then graduated from high school.

That was the late 80s. I don't know what ever happened to them, except for the drummer, who is playing in a band in South Jersey where we all grew up. Found him on the net, will have to call him up one of these days and see if he has time to jam and drink beer.

Two of my friends played instruments, guitar and drums, and I didn't, so at the age of 21 I decided to play bass.

We played a few gigs together, but as I got better I wanted us all to dedicate ourselves to improving, learning more songs, practicing more, etc. My friends weren't as ambitious so I moved on. Fortunately, we remained friends.

The other guitarist/founding member wanted to keep things wider genre-wise while the others wanted to go heavier because we thought we're never gonna get a vocalist with our semi-prog, medium heavy melodic metal thing (you'd think Finland is a metal country, but people here are so limited in their taste). Starting a new band with the other guitarist and drummer though (I think the one guy is taking a break in music in general). Which is nice because the one guy was quite the dull and stubborn person, not very easy to truly get along with.

I started my first band with 2 buddies from Jr. High, and after a year, we realized that the drummer just wasn't progressing as quickly as the rest of us.
I continued to play with the guitarist for the next 30 years in various cover & original bands, but currently we play in separate projects. I had burned out on the cover scene & playing gigs four times a month, so my current original metal band only plays out about once every six weeks or so. I'm not entirely satisfied with my current band, so I forsee myself forming another band with my old guitarist sometime in the not too distant future.

Newly recruited parttime sax player in reggae rock band got me and drummer to play some jazz. Unlike 1st band we got some regular gigs, mid week mostly, but lazy drummer chick hasn't got time for two bands, what's a bassist to do. Band 1 was actually viable but drummers were in short supply so BL folded it and left town in disgust.

Tendinitis... the drummer had to stop playing and since we were rehearsing in his parents house.... over the years, the band reformed with different line-ups and is still living today. Second drummer is now the lead signer, our previous singer is now the bass player and I took the keyboards, but the lineup is composed of friends that I've been playing with for almost 25 years now. Except for the new drummer, wich is the little brother of a friend of our band, and dreamt to play with us when he was a kid (he is 7 or 8 years than the other members, which does not do a difference now, but whent we were arount 20, it was not the same story).

Hot young girls started showing up at practices, and nobody wanted to play anything new, just stuff we knew well to impress the girls. Little did we know that they were already impressed and that we were wasting our time.

Two things, both involving substance abuse (and everyonevin the band was above 40...) drummer got three DUIs in a row (and has Chron's disease as well - he ain't even supposed to drink at all, let alone enough to blow a breathalyzer or blood alcohol test!) and our singer and her husband, our keyboardist, had a teenagevdaughter who got so badly into drugs she's been in rehab four or five times last I heard. We never even got a chance to have a full rehearsal...
