What ended your first band...

While we are on this subject... I'm presently in a situation where I think my 3 piece band will break up soon. The situation is that our lead guitard player(who is really good) was cheating on his wife while she had a terminal illness which we all knew. He would bring this girlfriend to the gigs to sit in and sing a few songs while the wife was in the audience. We'll our wives didn't like this so much and didn't want to be around the new girlfriend. Now that the guitard players wife has passed away, the girlfriend has moved in with him and comes to our gigs. We practice at the other guitard players house and his wife don't want her there. We are on the verge of telling the guitard player, you can come and practice but don't bring her. I'm thinking that if you tell me I cant bring my girlfriend, then you and the band can go f#@k yourselves. Am I correct? I see another band break up. Life is short, there are other guitard players. So be it.

My first not-in-a-church-band ended when the guitarist got severely ill and required surgery. Me (bass) and the harmonica player were left without a guitarist. Good bye southern rock gospel band. :(

My first band broke up because of me. I made the choice to move from Wisconsin to California. I played out my last 3 shows with the band and moved the day after the last show. The band found another bass player, but only lasted 2 more shows and were done. We were together from the time I was 15 until I was 21. Great guys. Great musicians. Miss those guys alot.

9th grade also, and our singer stopped showing up. We still jammed for a bit after, and eventually tried to start a new band with my other friend as a guitarist, but the old guitarist tried to be band leader, and wouldn't take any input from anybody, so I just up and left, and it quickly disintegrated after. The old guitarist still shoots me a message every now and again saying he wants to jam, but he hasn't really gotten any better since I last played with him, and he's way more into drugs now too, so I just try to stay away.

My first band started as a garage band in 1969 and was gigging very steadily in local teenage venues by 1970. I left in 1973 because of college commitments. The band went on the road full time in summer 1974. Most of them were around 18 years old (drinking age was 18 then in most places). They played dives on the road night after night, all summer long. By the time they got back home in late fall they couldn't stand the sight of each other and broke up soon after. A year later the core of the group reformed into a much stronger band that was very successful until it ended by mutual agreement in 1987.

First Band I got transferred out of town. Next band (3 piece) I got transferred again, singer went on the road doing comedy & music parodies (very successfully). Third band booze & drugs (not me) sucked all the joy out of playing.

I was fortunate with the 4th, we were together 23 years and ended on a positive note, nobody wanted to commit to regular playing anymore. I'm playing with the drummer & guitar player from that band in my new group.

Thirty years later, listening to some old job tapes the 3rd band was by far the best. However it became painfully obvious as the night wore on how sloppy everything became. But when it was on, it was exciting to listen to.

First band - college. Bass player went into the army and moved to Alaska.
Second band - Bandleader quit music to get her doctorate in psychology
Third band - I was fired. Band decided they wanted to be loud and aggressive, I was neither.
Fourth band - I moved from Australia back to USA
Fifth band - Still going, though we have trouble retaining guitarists

(I was the drummer in all these except for #5)

First band during my teenage days ended when the lead singer went crazy with drugs, literally. Second band during college and after ended when the bassist (I was on keys) ran off with my wife. Stuff happens. Third band had a good five year run until I quit.

graduating high school

but I'm pretty sure we were sick of each other by that time and would have blown up anyway.
We all learned our instruments coming up in that band and had reached the point where each of us was getting good enough to start having opinions...
Oddly none of us kept it up through college, but the couple of hangers on kids who wanted in our band went on in their college to play in bands -- some of them with a lot of success. Motivation.

kicked the singers butt in his own house after he came after me , me , the drummer, bass player moved on to another group, we stayed busy pretty much all through high school with that band, just kinda all parted ways without saying anything after our last show in 89 (1980-89 pretty good run i would say) drummer and I have played together quite a few times since then, bass player became a minister and quit playing, I picked the bass up a couple years after our last show and realized I could groove better than i could lead , second guitar player moved out of country and faded into the woodwork

LOL no not really , we just kept gigging after HS and life caught up with us , thus endeth the rockstar dream. I learned a ton from the experience and am passing it on now with the guys I play with . Not interested in touring anymore (ate enough Bologna on the hand and chased enough strippers to write a book) Now I prefer to play local , write and record songs , and watch my kids progress as musicians

Well, long story. arent they all???? My first band ended when I decided I was going to leave and play with someone else. The other guitar player in the band basically snapped at that point, and the whole band imploded almost instantaneously. It was really ugly for a week or two. I am, however playing with that same guitar player again right now, things are going better. :)
