I just read through SurferJoe`s posts and I can`t stop laughing...
What are you getting so excited about Joe?
I mean seriously....We are all talking about same thing and we all agree on the mechanic of "muscle memory".
Problem with you is that you absolutely can`t see beyond literal meaning of "muscle memory"...My advice: think outside the box for a second
))
Or write to oxford / harvard or whoever is taking care of english language dictionaries to remove that compound as you cannot understand it, since muscles do not have grey mass
)
For instance: do you have same problems with understanding sentence: "If I were in your shoes"?? Believe it or not There is another then literal meaning !!!
I will brake it down for you:
To be in someone else`s shoes means to be in his / her`s position (read more like situation then position). Sentence indicates that if I were in your shoes. I would be in your situation. Example: I would say: I would love to be in Marcus Miller shoes...This doesn`t mean I would like to wear his shoes....This means I would love to be as great bass player as he is with all pros and cons (if there are any
))
Now back to muscle memory thingy : Muscles can memorize things like I can be in your shoes
Hope this helped
Be a bit more metaphorical...life gets happier
