What genre are you playing?

Just thought I'd throw a poll over here to get a feel of what TBers are playing style wise these days. Vote for each of the genres you currently play (have a band or gig for)... because anyone can try any type of music once in a while but lets keep it to whats their usual style or genre of choice.

I've included some basic genres, but feel free to include more and ill add them to the poll. Similar genres will be grouped together in an effort to keep the poll concise.... for example punk rock and street punk, hardcore punk...

I play punk and ska in one band and im currently working on getting another band of the ground going for a classic stoner rock kind of thing.

I'm playing Bass in a cool Neo-Soul-esque group... kinda Sly and the Family Stone w. more grit and a little Fela Kuti blended in.

I also do a lot of Free/Avant-Guard Jazz gigs, but usually on guitar.

"Genre" doesn't mean anything. Just about every gig I've ever done has crossed genre's. Besides, "style" and "genre" is only useful for selling stuff, not for describing what the music really is. And the really interesing music to me is the stuff at the borders.

Besides, there's no real consensus of what different genres are. Is that crap that's played on modern country radio stations really country music, or is it just poor pop music? Where do you put people like Eva Cassidy, or Tuck & Patti, or Bonnie Raitt?

So, I play Duke Ellington Music. That's from what Ellington said when he was asked whether he considered his music to be jazz. He replied "There're only two kinds of music; music that sounds good and whatever you want to call that other stuff."

I am playing in two bands one is a rock band and one is a metal band. I have played in mostly metal bands the pass 5 years and since I got into this band I realized what rules apply to metal doesn't apply to rock haha. It crazy how close certain genres can be and how different they are when it actually comes down writing and how things are played. It's good to get out there and experience it all. It's opening a lot of new doors for me.

It's like Jazz, in rock style. VERY TECHNICAL hardcore.
