What is the absolute bare minimum you can get by with ?

Well - the "go-to" bass is my EBMM Sterling. My 30-some year old Warwick streamer is probably harder to replace.. Toss-up between these two. If I needed the money, I'd probably part ways with the Sterling as it'll be easier to replace in the future.

Frankly not super-attached to any of them. They are tools. For the right offer, I'll part with them and just get a Kiloton

Yep. Fender.
Currently 4 months out of back surgery, #1 (8 lbs). A year from now, (hopefully) #2 (10 lb FSO).

Either way, my D-800 and 1 GK NEO 115. And a cable.

For me, it would probably be my Carvin SB5000F. It is simply a great 5 string fretless that is sonically flexible and comfortable to play. I'm no fretless virtuoso, but love playing it. The two other contenders would be my MIJ '89 Jazz Bass Special and '81 G&L L-1000. I go back and forth on which I prefer of them.

1974 Ripper and my Ampeg B-15N. Had the amp since ‘69 and the bass since ‘74. Both are still going strong.

I’ve been lucky enough to have owned a lot of instruments so I seldom dwell on “ones that got away” but the Fretless koa Carvin LB-50 that I saw in a pawn shop in Philly 27 years ago for $400…. well…. I should’a bought that!

But to the OP’s question, I could function pretty well with any of the instruments in my collection but the last to go will be the custom 5-string fretless that my friend Michael Cleary built for me a little over 20 years ago.
That’s the only one I couldn’t possibly replace.

My last to go would probably be my Lakland 55-94. I have yet to experience an instrument that is as comfortable and easy to play.

The Roadworn Jazz would be tough to lose but I suppose I could work my way through another 15 or so jazz basses to find one I like as much
