Some change the tone noticeably, some change it only a bare smidge, and some are as transparent as is electronically possible. It seems that most of the pedals being recommended are "clean boost" pedals, which, despite their name, will change your tone a bit.
Depends on the volume pedal and the bass. Incorrect impedance relationships and loading can sometimes mean a volume pedal will dull your tone. You have to choose the right volume pedal for your bass, and it helps if there's an additional buffer in the pedal chain.Any thoughts on using a volume pedal? Wouldn't that be the cleanest way to change volume without changing tone?
