What is this bass?!

It says fender USA which I’m confident it’s not. No serial. Couldn’t take the neck off to look. It seems very well made and quality with EMG x pups, spalted maple neck? With pearloid binding and inlays? Weird matte gray almost stone looking bridge (identical to the gotoh bridge on the other bass of his but without the logo… same type of control plate/saddle and this gorgeous wood body which I’m not sure which kind it is. schaller tuners. It’s on consignment at my local store and the owner doesn’t know if it’s for 600 or 800. I offered 5 and asking for more info. Warmoth? Some other custom stuff? Maybe some of you experts can weigh in. It seems quite nice. Apparently the guy who built or put them on consignment (there’s another nice one) was a long time player and has Alzheimer’s or something Ana’s getting rid of stuff. What do you all think?

I'm willing to bet that's a Warmoth neck on a random jazz-type body. Ask if you can take the neck off and see if there are identifying marks on the neck heel or the neck pocket.

Defintiely will do before “potentially buying” I just really like it even though I don’t need it. I have a brand new 5 string sire v5 that I put flats on (but not sure I should have now that I have a p bass with flats) but I just bet this would sound way nicer in a comparison

Do you know if warmoth does pearl or whatever binding like that?

cool, thank you! Geez… this is tough because I just got this sire I love with the roasted maple but something about this bass is just so nice. And it even had poopy old strings and strings frets that haven’t been polished in years

I'm sure there are lots of people in the TB Sire Club who would be happy to take that V5 off your hands...

the way the body and the pickguard skew against each other on the upper horn is making me giggle

the gap at the pg and control plate not workin for me...tho it looks nice overall for parts bass. wont know till ya play.

If it plays well and sounds good I'd snap it up for the right price.... ... then replace that awful pickguard. It's like someone described the shape over the phone. The gomer gap to the control plate, the wrong radius at the lower cutaway, the top extending into the body radius....

Oh and the neck is birdseye. Slightly more stable than spalt.

That's not spalted maple, it's birdseye.

It's actually a pretty nice-looking bass...as others have said, if it sounds good and plays good, and you can get it for the right price, snap it up...

I would keep the Sire and let this one go unless it’s dirt cheap. That nut is a bit strange looking as well.

It's a parts bass, with a (very bad) fake fender sticker, and a pickguard that doesn't fit.
