Plays great too. That's my #1 for the hard rock/metal band. Shame they are discontinuing them.

I definitely get that. I played one when they first came out at a a place called a "Guitar Center".. back when the store was lined with guitars and basses and there was even a dedicated bass room . There was a little room off to the side called "Pro- Audio" now it's completely reversed. I loved everything about the Bongo 6. definitely the best 6 I've ever played. It was the painted neck or gloss finish on the back of the neck that stopped me. I think they have come out with satin versions by now. Yep... I'd say it's a one bass solution for players willing to alter right hand technique and placement as needed. Good Call. I'd say I share your dream , if you don't mind.
I've already posted my dream basses, but I'd at LEAST like to TRY a Ken Smith and a WAL. BTW way are WAL basses so expensive? I saw one on R&*%RB.. can't remember the exact damage...pretty extensive... fire damage.. cracked headstock, other issues.....stuff that would devalue ANY other bass. They were asking $6000
Bass Guitar. I am more utilitarian in thinking. I have always looked for good deals in used and I've never bought a new bass ever.
When I saw Charlie Hunter in the early 90's, I always wanted to learn how to play guitar and bass at the same time, but I could never afford a Novax. You got them new and they were 4K and up. When I moved to San Diego for work, I missed a few on CL. When COVID started, I just asked Clay Conner if they had any deals, like customer returns etc and he hooked me up with a customer who was upgrading. I got one of the prototype 7 strings hybrids, meaning it could be a regular 7 string for metal or Van Epps tuning with a single output or the pickups could split into 2 outputs. Ideally I would have like separate bass and guitar pickups, but the Armstrong stereo/split pickups work just fine. Solid block of Cedar and I do prefer ebony fingerboards and the price was still steep for me but I was able to afford it. I already played a Kiesel fan-fret guitar and bass, so no problem playing it the first day. I just dug deep into my jazz guitar and classical guitar training (mostly self taught).
I would like to have backup someday one with separate pickups. You could say I got my dream bass after jonesing for it almost 27 years. I play this bass+guitar a lot, I have actually started to have dug the wood under the strings. You can really play it with a pick if you have to do bass and guitar lines. It is tuned on the bass GCF and on the guitar CFBbD instead of EAD ADGB. I use GHS Precision Flats for short scale basses
Here's an experimental tune I did with my mates. A jazz drummer and a synth player who gets some really nasty sounds of his Casio CZ, a Morley volume pedal, a peavey tube amp and a TC Helicon and a SM57 mic live sampling. You really have to be into free stuff to maybe even listen to it but as you can hear, I am playing both parts at the same time. Just a cranked AC-15 into an attenuator with just a reverb pedal and an old SWR amp with the gain near max. Recorded via a Zoom H6. And oh the picture of the bass+guitar called the Universal 7, made by Hybrid Guitars - Wes Lambe and Clay Conner.

Just a regular Dingwall. Any kind really. As long as it has fanned frets. That or a rickenbacker 4001... Or a Warwick Corvette 5 string.

Take a Yamaha BB2024. Strip the body. Cut off the wings. Attach smaller, well-contoured pawlonia wings. Have the fairy godmother of balance wave her magic wand over it. VVT. Paint it black.
With all the extra traffic being driven onto Route CS by the demise of neck options on BTO, I'm wondering when these Feb 2023 orders will start appearing.My last option order was March 1, 2020 and I got it in nine weeks ! That was with having it sent back from Quality inspection for missing matching headstock. Since they have gone to "build to order "with less options , I went Custom Shop for this one before I get priced out of EVER being able to afford one . Whatcha wait'n on?
This picture which I first saw in December 1980 started my, infatuation with whatever instrument this was I was 13 at the time & a huge Gary Numan fan. In 1987 I'm asked to buy a bass & learn how to play, so I can join my mates band & I bought a cheep Marlin PJ bass but really wanted a Hofner Violin bass.
The following November I'm in a guitar shop with my now ex girlfriend and she points to the wall saying, "There's one of those funny basses you like" & I'm grinning like an idiot I've now seen a real Hofner Violin bass.
The owner says it's a 70's model but from what I had read and learned, as there was no internet back then the pickups and panel put it to mid 60's at best.
He wanted £175 for it a brand new JV Squier Precision was £199, so I bought it but as I got to the door I couldn't keep my mouth shut & told him it was a 60's version.
Coming up to 35 years together & various other basses have come and gone, I've come to realize that this little German made bass was my dream bass all along
I do remember when they first came out. A lot cheaper if I recall correctly! At least the one my local GC had hanging on the wall was. No one was messing with it so I grabbed it and played for a spell. It was satin black and the most odd, but mesmerizing bass I had seen to date. To say I fell in love would be an understatement. Sigh, one day I’ll have one. And yes, there’s plenty of room in my dreamscape for more than just me to be rocking out with a beautiful bongo, so come on in. The water’s fine haha

That Bass is my favourite of all the basses I've had!. The 'Color of the Year" for 2002. It has darkened considerably in 20 years. When it was new you could see the wood grain very well. I haven't seen one like mine for sale in a while. Got it from 'The Rickenbacker Page". I think I've seen 4001 Burgundyglo on Reverb. Thanks for the compliment.

I had a Higher Violin a long time ago. I always wanted a bass with a Violin shape but much larger, like Hofner Very thin size.Do it!
That bass, looks like art I just COULDN'T play it for fear of putting DING in it. Beautiful fingerboard
I am more than fortunate I was able to obtain my 2 dream basses.
The left one is a Low End Jazz built by Brian Barrett & the right is a Pensa Suhr custom built for Lloyd Cole . Lloyd ordered it after playing Victor Bailey’s PS jazz @ Rudy’s. The body is Koa under the beautifully aging Olympic White.
I purchased this bass directly from Lloyd.
