What is your favorite dog breed?

Speaking of beagles, we fostered one for several weeks. Guess what happened?

A female dog was in heat about 30 yards from our apartment. Our 'foster' beagle would bellow like he was on steroids-because he wanted a piece of that other dog. It lasted for days. I've never heard such a vocal dog in my whole life. Beagles...you gotta' love 'em. :D

My German Shepherd Maya is a bit over a year old now and an absolute pleasure. She is incredibly smart and very easy to train and wants nothing more than to please you. She listens well, learns quickly and is an absolute sweetheart. She plays well with other dogs but her enthusiasm can be a bit overwhelming for the nervous. She sure can shed some hair though...

I grew up with Golden and black labs and have a soft spot in my heart from them but GSDs are my favorite by a bit.

Although i love my 2 dogs at the moments, both maltese shi-tzus (not very macho, i know but i didnt have much say, plus they have very unique personalities and a mans best friend) my last dog, a rhodesian ridgeback was gorgeous.

We bought a Cavalier when my beloved dalmation, Peeve, died back in March. Dalmations are my favorite dogs, but Kevin our spaniel is a great dog too. We also have a shih tzu (sp?) named George. After the kids are grown we're thinking about a mastiff, but it'll take that long to be able to afford food for one!

Current dog is a border collie / Australian Cattle Dog cross, bred to be a worker... but he was determined early on to not have what it takes to herd cattle. This may or may not have been true, but I suspect it was the correct assessment. He would rather cuddle than anything. He's smart, responsive, loving, and an excellent companion.

Previous dog was a greyhound. Best. Dog. Ever. Indigo Java ("Indy" for short) retired from racing at age 2.5 and died too young at 10.5.

We also fostered many greyhounds when they came off the tracks. It was always funny to have to teach an adult dog to use the stairs, walk across linoleum, etc. Greys aren't for everyone, and they do come with a couple of special requirements, but on the whole they are wonderful dogs.
