What is your "one day..." bass?

Well, that's how my head works anyway. I have that with a couple of basses. I want want just because I like them somehow, but I know I'll probably never buy one because I have no direct use for them.

First, a Rob Allen Mouse. I played one when I was 14 and have wanted one ever since (I'm almost 36 now). But I have no practical use for one at all and for "just for fun", it's a bit too pricey.

Second, a pre-EB Stingray. I have never been, currently am not and will never be a Stingray player. I've owned a USA Sterling, currently have a Sterling Stingray and I just can't get along with the necks and the sound of Stingray. Even so, every time a vintage Stingray pops up for sale, I go "well...shall I?"

And then there's a vintage Höfner Club Bass. I have a cheap Chinese Höfner that I really like as something at home, but it's not a bass (or a feel) gig with. But yeah. They're hella cool and recently I've tested a vintage reissue Club for a magazine that I really considered keeping.

In reverse order...
Had the hofner... didn't work for me and I didn't get the title :-) Atcually I was more inspired by Tina than Paul..
Musicman. I have wanted to love a few. Beautiful fit and finish. There is an old engineering standard for thin known as an RCH.... Well you couldn't fit one in berween the neck and body on any of the ones I bought and sold. Those pockets were ... Time is tight, Tight! The freless i tried had the best finger board of any fretless - except for @Passinwind has this Crecent Moon... though shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife so she's safw... that Crescent Moon on the other hand.... Yeah well I just can't find me tonally in a MM. It's not you, it's me...

Which brings us to the mouse. Been lusting for an RA since playing @BartmanPDX MB2. Finally scored a fretless Mouse ... @Passinwind 's Crecent moon is so far safe :-)

Yep, one of the reasons I love them and it's completely missed by the majority of commenters.

In the same way I'd rather my cab was neutral rather than having a baked in tone like an SVT, which if you don't want to have 'an SVT tone' you have to fight against to get it to be different, let alone wideband (what I want).

Cool Mal. I played my friend's fretted Mouse the other night at an Open mic across the river, which sounded great through her little PJB Double Four. I like it more when she brings her fretless one or her upright though.

The CMB you mentioned is one of only two fretless builds he ever did, I think. The earlier one was his own, which I never saw. The raw neck for mine came from La Si Do in Quebec, who at least used to have some sort of affiliation with Godin.

My CM bass had Q-Tuners in it for many years, but now sports LeCompte Triple Threat single coils, which I like even more in it:

A ‘57-‘58 Fender P bass either reissue or original in either the translucent white or 2 tone sunburst finish with a maple board and gold anodized pickguard…

Maybe a custom bass in a StingRay style body with a slightly thinner neck profile capable of Ken Smith style tones… possible fanned fret
