What is your primary bass? Your #1?

My main bass is a factory stock 1974 Ripper. Has been ever since I bought it back in April 1974.

For my second "favorite" bass, it's any one of the other eight or nine (on average) that are currently in my collection.

I allow myself to own no more than ten basses at any one time. If I didn't, I'd need to rent storage space.

Mine is a 74. It has a bit of a dead spot at the 5 fret on the g string but that's actually more common than I thought. I had a $3K Pedulla neckthru that had the same. I took it back and got a Spector that was just about perfect in every way.

Truly, the easiest bass I've ever played. any bass I buy now, gets compared to the Lakland. Few manage to make the cut.

I was planning on using it for the gig anyway,but when i tried on my tux at home,i took "accessory" pics of various basses to see what looked best, (As one does...right?)
The combination of fireglo and gold won out!
Although the white w/black trim 4000 looked pretty nice,too.....

My number 1 is a 2011 MIA Jazz Deluxe that I bought new and then removed the active circuits and set it up passive with Lindy Fralin pickups, overwound by 8% to get slightly more lows and mids. I also swapped the black pickguard for a white pearl.

My second bass is a 2015 M Basses Precision with Nordstrand pickups.

I haven't actually weighed it, but I'd say it's between 7-8 lbs. Not crazy light like a Rob Allen, but not stupid heavy like my '88 Steiny XL-2. It's very comfortable to play on the four-hour gigs we usually play.

They are really hard to find and I just had to take the plunge when I had the opportunity to get one used at a decent price. I figured I'd flip it if it wasn't what I'd hoped, but it became my #1 pretty much right away. Fantastic stage bass if you don't mind the aesthetics.

My main go-to is always my 1990 Tobias Killer B5, trans purple, pre-Gibson, made in Burbank CA - liked it so much back then that I bought the second one about 6 months later before MT moved and closed that shop - the natural one is now back to fretted (actually was fretted when I bought it). I buy and sell a lot of basses, but the Purple KB5 is always the go-to. It's light IMO @ 8# and sounds great live and recorded.
